How much is it to test for COVID19 in a hospital? I'm only asking because a friend of mine got charged $4000 for going into the ER and saying he was exposed to someone that had it and his bill came at a whopping $4000 and not to mention some discounts included all for just a mouth swab test. Oh and he does not have HEALTH INSURANCE. Anyway he can appeal that cost? Right now people are unemployed and hospitals charging that much right now should waive the fee mainly if the person has a valid argument like being exposed to someone or displaying symptoms.

When the bill arrives, there is usually a place on there that says you can fill out an application for charity. I assisted a family member do this and the bill was reduced significantly.

Does he have insurance? A lot of ins companies are waving deductibles and copays for Covid related visits.

If he’s unemployed he can file for hardship with the hospital. That’s really fast turn around time for a claim he should call his insurance if he has it to see if it’s been processed correctly. If he has no insurance he can call the hospital to see if they’ll give him a discount or give him a hardship form to fill out.

I would assume the reason is because he visited the ER and the average ER visit is about 2k. He could have visited an actual testing site in which case would have been free of charge. If he does have insurance, his insurance should cover all cost. Including Co pay.

The news said it was $200 at the testing sites if you didn’t want to use insurance (unless I heard wrong)

There are Walgreens that are doing drive thru testing. Just have to go on the website and fill something out. I believe its free of charge.

Why would he waste his time going if he’s not showing severe symptoms

He was exposed and talked to someone who tested positive

Supposedly, according to the president (take that at face value) no one in the United States should be paying for testing whether insured or not. My suggestion would be a Google search since no one here seems to actually be answering your question…
