Hi everyone.  I’m relatively new to the area.Hi everyone. I’m relatively new to the area. Moved here from PA with my family a few months ago. Finally settling in. I was wondering if there’s any running clubs in the area? Something for distance runners preferably but open to anything. The running community is awesome and figured it would be a good way to meet new people once this COVID is over with.

@amin35 is a pace leader for CARA.

@travertine I’ve been to a few of the CARA runs. They’re nice. Will they be starting up again? I have done a CARA run since February

@lille13592 we usually start the first week of June, for summer marathon training. I am part of the group that meets in Niles at Bunker Hill Saturday at 7am. They typically have water/Gatorade stations every 2 miles or so and have pace leaders to help out. I'm not sure of how things will be this year, with Covid but you should definitely come and check it out sometime! They are working out the kinks now and will have a plan in place soon.

@amin35 is it free or is it like a paid program? I run about a 6:30 pace for training purposes and don’t find too many group trainers at that pace but if it’s free I’ll do group runs at whatever pace everyone else is going

@lille13592 it isn't free, but to come out and meet other runners and give it a try is! If you like it, you can join the training group, or make some friends with people that run your pace and run other days and times with them. There are a few quick guys like you! A lot of them belong to the Niles Runners group, it's free and they have a fb page too.

Yes. I agree with @mismanage  Also, I've trained with CARA Chicago Area Runners Association in Niles, out at Bunker Hill. There are several locations they run at, that's my fav though. Niles area running group along with Dick Ponds are all friends Welcome to the area!

Ya I have run with CARA-Chicago Area Runners Association and currently run with Busse Woods Running Club. CARA is huge. Places to run all over Chicago and their marathon summer package is well run but it costs some money. BWRC is free but it's awesome. It started about 2 years ago. We run out at busse woods near Shamburg. We are doing virtual training over the summer in preparation for the Chicago marathon.

@tagmeme511 I’m not looking to train (unless you know someone who can train me to run a sub 1:00 in a 10 mile race haha) I run competitively on my own and have been for a few years. Just looking for people to run with and make some friends. The only thing I knew of before was the free CARA runs on saturdays but BWRC seems to be the recurring trend here so I’ll definitely have to look into it.

There are coaches at BWRC. Couple have qualified for Boston. So they might be that fast.

Unless you are a Philly flyers fan. Then there are no clubs in Chicago.

@tagmeme511 I like hockey. That’s about the only sport I watch haha. But I’m originally from Buffalo NY so the Sabres are my team
