Instagram stories and contractors.  For those that work with social media contractors.Instagram stories and contractors. For those that work with social media contractors. do you give them your Instagram credentials so they can do stories? I'm assuming that's the only way? Or is there any kind of app or another way to do it without giving your login? That way you don't have to worry about your account getting jacked. and it's secure from being hacked? lol I use two-factor authentication.

As long as you have 2FA you’re sweet to give them the password but still better to use LastPass or something similar

Cool, so you just share the password using the share feature? Do you guys have a separate LastPass account for your business and personal? I have just an account I use for personal+business but wondering if I should have a business one too

Yes - Lastpass is typically how we go. (business). Honestly, I can say after working with hundreds and hundreds of social media help and hiring more than I can remember for my own businesses. if your gut tells you that this person (or people) are not 110% trustworthy. definitely keep looking until you find the ones you feel super comfortable with. Also -- make sure your contracts are in place and have them reviewed by an attorney.

Great advice. Do you just switch between business and your personal LP accounts with your master passwords? Seems kinda like a pain to have to do this everyday.

I use the Station app/browser for all of my business-related items.

If you don't trust someone with your credentials you shouldn't hire them in the first place. If someone is managing your organic SM they should have the login (haven't used lastpass with my clients but sounds cool), not only so they can interact and engage with your target audience and whatnot, but also so they can dig into the engagement and stats and evaluate the top-performing content and mold your content strategy to get better reach/engagement.

If you didn't want to give them access, the next best thing would be to have a scheduling software set up and managed by the contractor that they can create/curate story content and have them pushed to your notifications on your mobile device. Then you'll have to manually upload to your story.

For social media contractors, I NEVER share FB or IG login creds except via 3rd party tools so the individual has a unique login (i. e. via Sproutsocial or similar).

LastPass! It kind of goes without saying that you should 100% trust the person you’re hiring. But, it’s a little naive to just rely on trust alone. Too big of a risk. Plus it’s not always the person working for you who breaches trust. Employees can get hacked and expose your sensitive info. Learned my lesson on both trust and breaches. Redundancy is key!

Hey Chris! Totally. How do you use Lastpass. do you just use the free or premium version and share passwords? Do you have one for personal and another for business stuff?
by (250 points)
@tricolor if you want to use it with a team you’ll need the business version. You can designate who gets access to whichever sites you set. The personal version is limited in ability but if you’re just sharing one password I think it might work for you.

I’m not a fan of using things like last pass because the person can still get the password if they know code.

No you do not give them credentials. That's a security vulnerability + can get your FB account flagged for suspicious activity (logins from random IP addresses across the country/world). Use Hootsuite, Sprout Social, eClincher, or one of the dozens of other social media management platforms that allow you to authorize users to post on your company's pages through the platform.

Good point. How do they do stories? It's a lot easier to do from the phone. Maybe they create the story from their IG, save it, and then upload to a social scheduling app like Later on the computer?

@tricolor eClincher I know does stories. Some of the others probably do as well.

Yeah for sure. cool so that should work. My only other concern is how will they like and comment on people's posts/IG stories? My social person wants to do that to help build followers. She calls it "Lurking" ha where she scans people from competitor pages. Also, may be helpful for doing influencer relationships so influencers can see that we liked and commented on their stuff. any solution for this?

I believe you can do outreach in eClincher too. It's been a few months since I used it last but it's got a ton of features. Reach out to their sales team to make sure it suits your needs. The biggest benefit is not sharing your password with employees or contractors which I'm surprised everyone in this thread is willing to risk.
