I would love to have my bird feeder back but felt I had to remove all food sources as saw a big brown rat on my fence hacking at the coconut feeder

@mil54465 I have a beautiful bird station, but can't use it now as there were little mice coming to what the birds were dropping. Then I saw two different rats in my garden so never fed them since

@invigilate2626 @faustino it was only the other day, been feeding the birds for years, its really knocked me for 6 seeing a big rat in broad daylight too! it or they had also dug four burrowing holes at the bottom of our garden, we've filled them in and removed the bird feeding station and not seen it since, it's such a shame as we had little finches come to feed, they came the same day we took it away wondering where their food was, we read up that the rats feed on seed that has been leftover so had no choice remove it, it's so sad isn't it x
by (570 points)
@mil54465 exactly the same here, the first rat was enormous and was walking across our lawn through the day, and the same just the other week through the day and was huge but a different colour. I read up about what attracts them. So we have put rat poisen down and they have been eating it.

@invigilate2626 @faustino I went to the local B&M the same day we saw it to look for poison but they didn't sell it, will keep my eye on the garden to see if there if there is any more evidence of rats, if so we will have to maybe order it online, I still can't get over it, funny thing is we saw it on the fence and thought it was a squirrel until it turned around we saw "THE" tail ha x

@mil54465 I thought one of them was a cat because it was a dark ginger colour and was so big. My son got ours online.

Nice one you’ve properly killed more than the rat.
by (430 points)
@invigilate2626 @faustino haha, you just don't expect a rat to be strolling around not a care in the world in broad daylight, good luck with getting rid of them for good but I know it's put me off feeding the birds for good now x

@fruity?
by (570 points)
@fruity it was hidden discreetly from any other wild life, and was used as a last resort.
by (650 points)
I’m all for it until something eats the carcass and gets poisoned then carries on the chain. Best of with traps for the future.
by (430 points)
@fruity OK I will take that on board if need be but fingers crossed its moved on

This is mine, I do sell them online with many other designs from wall mounted and hanging all drilled and secured with metal fittings so will not fall apart as the weather will deteriorate the glue. Just look for PrettyVintageHouse

My Dad made this for me 4 years ago for Christmas, he would have been 81 at the time, bless him. He was always good at carpentry. He passed away in February, I miss him so much but when I look at this every morning, it makes me smile ❤
