Any good tips/advise on how to optimise GDN for conversions? How to make similar Roas to Search?

Search is for people looking for something. GDN is to put your ads in front of someone that didnt ask anything. Its two different channels that don't need to be compared by ROAS. It doesn't make sense. From experience GDN is a lot of crap, bot and leftover of publisher deals. Work on whitelist you create, layer that with audiences, custom intent and interest. Exclude app's that burn through your budget. Use clickcease to avois fake clicks bot clicks as much as possible. And check your traffic quality in analytics.

Do you think GSP is much better than GDN or is it same crap?

Totally different as well :) GSP is mailbox, so by definition you won't appear on weird or shady placement. Had better results in pure acquisition in GSP than GDN. I don't say display is bad, just need to know what to do to avoid wasting money.

Honestly I turn GDN off. It takes away from profitable business. Focus on what is actually converting in your SQR's and fine tune your campaigns from there.
