For expensive items, say $1000 category and up (and an item big in volume). Would you say search ads would be a better option than shopping? I mean i would do both still, but just have a feeling that shopping ads are good for cheaper smaller items

Go for both options. Search and shopping complete each other

Its all about targeting

Do a test on it. I could see reason why both would work.

Shopping usually is much more ROI friendly than search but it depends who is setting up and managing the campaigns.

These are things some people needs and if you need it you cant really choose to not buy it. You need it so you have to invest in it. If not from my client then from someone else, but they would still have to buy it. Not sure if it makes a difference.

Unless there is a specific reason you cant, do both. Targeting is king, and of course your remarketing game needs to be 10/10 to maximise.

@cowper @caine Roberts thank you. How would you retarget (except from display). Do you just run a copy of the shopping and search campaign but with the difference of a retargeting list + higher bids?

@caine best structure really depends on your budget. If it’s small you don’t need to copy campaigns you can apply audiences to existing campaigns on observation, then create new ones based on the top performers with specific budgets later on. But of course specific ad copy is always better. Larger budget, then you can create separate campaigns from the get go. I personally only copy to save time and always adapt for remarketing with specific ads. Also, I like to focus on search impression share for the remarketing for search. Display I assume you have covered. And don’t forget YouTube. If you have the creative you should always be remarketing there as well. Keep in mind remarketing is more about timeframes. Ie the longer it takes to come back the less likely the sale. Have a “hard and fast” remarketing strategy along with a “slower burn” strategy.

$1000 and up you have to have a brand people know and trust spending 1k on a brand no one heard of is not easy to do

Hello Louise, I use mostly search for a client with products of that ticket price. The key is getting good quality leads. They are not so many leads but either chats, forms, or calls bring a potential good client that was simply looking for our keywords. It is important to have a good sales team getting back to them, because often these Items of over $1k, many times require a person following up and closing the sale. In addition, once you have a relevant audience of a good size I recommend to retargeting with display, YouTube etc. all depends also on your industry. I hope tus is useful. I was actually thinking in trying shopping campaign for my client too but to target some of they less expensive items. but so far I haven’t done it. Do you have good results using shopping ?

@kinard thank you very much! The client is new and we only been running for a few days so far. Budget not too high.

I do both, but mostly shopping. My most popular items range from $2000-$5000.
