Hi guys!  Do you setup your conversions via Google Ads or do you import them from Google Analytics's goals?Hi guys! Do you setup your conversions via Google Ads or do you import them from Google Analytics's goals? Why? Edit: My question wasn't detailed enough. I am wondering if other advertisers have noticed a difference by using conversions tracking directly in Google Ads instead of importing goals from Analytics due to the Last Click attribution model of Analytics. I suspect we'd see more conversions attributed to our Search, Display, YouTube ads if we were using conversions tracking directly in Google Ads with our Time Decay attribution model. More here:

I was wondering if other advertisers noticed a difference by using the conversion tracking via Google Ads (installed via GTM or directly on site). I suspect we'd see more conversions attributed to our Search, YouTube, Display campaigns. that were otherwise lost due to the Last Click attribution model of Analytics.

U can use linear in GA. If you’re losing conversions it would likely be kn the google ads side and not ga, plus they are integrated. Shouldn’t be anything missing. GA is accurate as it gets for free.

Always use GA for reporting, conversions in Adwords are just for getting the system to optimize toward what it needs to be.

@vidette307 Yeah maybe the integration helps! Good point. In the link I posted, they mention cases where GA would actually not attribute anything to Google Ads when it should if using something other than Last Click. But maybe their examples are just valid for when Last Click is used in GA

Both systems got different attributions. I would recommend strongly to use the pixels, since they feed the Google Ads machine (especially with automated bidding). But always be critical on what Google Ads reports. I mostly use GA for reporting if I'm comparing with other performance channels. But I always keep the attributed conversions in mind.

@quit8 Makes sense. I'm doing a test to see the difference. We'll see!

I prefer GA because it's easier to set up one code and track all your goals on one platform.

@receiver4 It's possible through GTM. You can setup events there and send them to Analytics, Google Ads and even FB. Using all the same triggers.

@mitman17714 you're 100% right

@receiver4 There's so many different ways

@mitman17714 sometimes I'll use both, depending on how the website is setup. Certain things like call tracking are easier to do in Tag Manager, while forms I like to just take care of in Analytics.

Ugh, this is a debate that has been there for some time now. There are a number of posts regarding this issue. The short answer is Google Ads track better for optimization due to it's attribution model/system. Ga is better for overall channels reporting and tracking.

@nuke962 Awwe exactly what I thought. They both have perks. ugh lol

@mitman17714 trust me the more i researched on this topic, the more i was getting confused! The interesting part is that Google support will usually ask you to use GA instead of Google ads when it could actually be counterintuitive for their own business because of the poor attribution model of GA when it comes to ads.

@nuke962 You and me both! lol I'll try to ask our agency rep if they suggest one more than the other

@mitman17714 would love to hear what you guys decide to go for and WHY.

@nuke962 we have been using the ones from GA. I started installing them via GTM in a few of our accounts as well and adding them to the Google Ads but leaving them as All conv. only. I'll compare the results and see what's best. And we'll see what the rep says

If you have separate landing pages for Google Ads, this isn't an issue. Setup conversion code on Google Ads and analytics separately.

The analytics goals do not track view-through conversions, only click-through. If you want view-through conversion data, you need to use the pixels. You can also get the best of both worlds by setting up both versions and only using one version for optimization.
