Anybody ever tried to dye brown eggs? I know I can buy white ones but I’d like to not be wasteful and use what we have at home.

@saar1856 hmm I think this will be a fun experiment

@trephine it is. I used to have hens that laid brown and blue eggs, they're fun to color. I would suggest using slightly less water than called for, so the color is more concentrated, and dipping them for longer

@trephine i dont thin it will be bright colors. One way is to paint over. I do paint with my acrilic paint lol. But that is my own as a artist preference. Other way i do with onion brown shels. Even brown eggs looks amaizing

We’ve done it using the dye kits from the store, the pic is one of the times we did it that way. We’ve also used food coloring and whipped cream which turned out pretty cute, you just put whipped cream in a container and swirl some food coloring in it and roll the egg around, works well for littles but is pretty messy. You just need to let the colored whip cream sit on the egg for a while to give the dye a chance to show up better. We think the brown eggs look like colored rocks when they’re dyed, pretty cool.

We only have brown ones and I’m going to let the kids use some old nail polish to decorate them!

Peel them and dye the whites. Just use food coloring, vinegar and water for the dye mixture. Then you get to eat colorful eggs!

I love the way brown eggs turn out dyed. Just leave them in a bit longer and the colors get so bold.

Yes! I/2 cup of boiled water with 1 teaspoon white vinegar and 10-20 drops food coloring per each dye. We used rubber bands to create stripes.

Yes, I have in the past and they have a very sophisticated look - the hues are a bit more muted.

Dye them the same way. they come out with jewel-tones. The darker colors obviously work better but even pink and orange will show. Yellow doesn't do alot but it does give a golden luster.
