Does anyone know anything about other school districts south of Naperville like Minooka, Channahon, New Lenox, Frankfort, etc (south of Joliet)? We may need to move down that way but I don’t know anyone in this state let alone area to ask. I need a school district good for kiddos with IEPs. Thank you so much!

I just moved to Mokena and I’m happy with the school district so far. My son has an IEP and his teachers are amazing. New Lenox has good schools too. That was another town we were considering moving to.

@ufo527 we are in district 159 in Mokena. Depending on where you live in Mokena depends on the district you are in.

@ufo527 Wognum Torrence thank you. it's like that here in Naperville too.

@ufo527 I love Naperville too and all that it offers for families.
by (24k points)
@ufo527 we haven't gotten to do much here. we moved in back in October. and then it snowed on Halloween and then winter came and now corona has canceled everything we had lined up. LOL. hopefully we can soon LOL

@ufo527 awe that’s rough that you haven’t been able to experience a lot yet. Hopefully you can experience what Naperville has to offer sometime soon when we can go out again.

@ufo527 Wognum Torrence exactly. such a bummer. but I'm optimistic. if we can travel by June, I'll be gone for the summer but back mid august and hopefully then get to enjoy a little bit left before moving if we have to. still waiting to find out about that. but this is me prepping months in advance bc I'm a mom and that's what we do best. LOL

@ufo527 now is the time to do your research while you are forced to be at home. Even if you move, it doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy things in Naperville. I still go there often since I have family who live in Naperville.

@ufo527 of course.

I’m from Channahon and I highly recommend it! It’s rated the second safest town in IL and the school districts are AWESOME! It’s a smaller town but I feel like that gives it more of a family friendly feel. I keep begging my fiancé to let us move there. Good luck!

Thank you! I have driven there one time b/c a lady was going to watch my dog (via Rover app) but her dog wasn't having it LOL but she worked for the district there too from what I recall but I don't remember her name and I don't have the app anymore since my dog passed! gah! but I will definitely check into it.

Channahon has awesome school

Thanks. yeah I saw a bunch on schools in the areas I mentioned but I wanted to find out from locals who are in those schools/areas about them. especially for my son who has an IEP. I know a lot of districts aren't as good for IEPs that have amazing ratings. so it's so hard when choosing my for little guy.

@ufo527. Welcome. The school is great with IEPs

Pay attention to what high schools the elementary schools feed into. Shorewood/ Plainfield schools feed into Joliet high schools and I wouldn’t want my kids there
by (8.6k points)
Shorewood can go Joliet West or Minooka, just depends on the address. Joliet addresses might feed into Plainfield South. There’s a lot of misinformation about schools that aren’t in “north Plainfield” and it just gets old after a while. I’ll get off my soap box now.
by (2.8k points)
I moved out of Shorewood specifically because I didn’t want my kids to go to Joliet West. Although we were happy with the Troy elementary district.

We will only be in the state until October 2021. so we don't have to worry about the middle/high school situation. we're not army brats but feels like it with my hubs company. LOL
