We are moving from Chicago to Naperville in March and will be commuting to Chi for work daily. We are now choosing between 2 daycares for our son and one of them opens at 6. 30am while the other one opens at 7am. We prefer the one that opens at 7, however we don’t know how bad finding a parking spot at the train station looks like between 7. 20 and 7. 30am. (we need ~20-25 min to get to Downtown train station via Route 59 at that time of day, as we will be living in South Naperville) Do you ladies have any suggestions on that? Originally our plan was to drop off at 6. 30 and be at the train station before 7, so we can secure a parking spot. But now I don’t know if we can still squeeze in a drop off at 7 if we were to choose the school we like better! Thank you for your help!

@nonpartisan45619  is 7 am ok then?

I currently see the daily parking spots available on 5th avenue and in a tiny lot off of there around 7:20/7:30 every day however couldn't guarantee that you'll always find one. Also, put yourself on the waiting list for a permit spot ASAP- it takes years to get

In Naperville downtown anything after 7am is impossible unless you pay for a spot or buy one at a local business or house . 59 would be a better option for you .

It is easy to get parking at the 59 station. Choose the daycare you feel most comfortable with.

Agreed that parking is a lot easier at the Rt 59 train station.

I park at the route 59 station each morning. Plenty of spots. Two express trains back to back 7:01 and 7:13

Permits aren’t necessary at 59. Daily fee spots are pretty easy to find.
by (1.8k points)
@clothbound no permit required. It’s $2 daily to park and $2. 50 if you’re paying by credit card at the machine. I believe you can get a permit if you don’t want to pay daily at the machine

You can download the ParkMobile app and pay for the entire week on the app!

Depending where you are in south Naperville and where you need to go in Chicago, you may want to consider using the route 755 or route 855 PACE bus from Plainfield to downtown instead of Metra. Free parking, and only $4. 50 each way. Wifi on bus. 855 makes stops all along Michigan Avenue, 755 stops in west loop near train station and UIC area. Worth looking into. I did the train for years and the bus is better if the route and times work for your needs.

@kayceekaye that’s doable! We live in Ashbury (95th and Book) and my husband commutes downtown every day. It’s an hour for him from door to door!
by (660 points)
@sourwood1563 does he go by bus?
by (2.3k points)
@kayceekaye nope. He drives to the downtown Naperville station and takes an express train. His office is right by Union Station so that also helps.
by (660 points)
@sourwood1563 great! My office is also by Union. What time does he get to the train station?
by (2.3k points)
@kayceekaye pretty early-just after 6:00.

I commute downtown everyday via downtown Naperville train station. I drop my son off at daycare around 7:20 and usually get to the train station around 7:40 for the 7:54 train, NO PROBLEM with finding a parking spot, ever.

@rhine Valavanis oh my god that is incredible! Thank you!
by (660 points)
@rhine Valavanis is there a specific lot where you park?
by (890 points)
If I’m cutting it close with time, I park in the $5 lot, I can’t remember the name of it, otherwise they recently opened another lot with tons of spots
by (890 points)
@iso525 daily parking
by (650 points)
@rhine Valavanis I’ve heard that after 9 there are open spots. Ive never known that there is a lot with open spaces near Naper station after 8 but before 9. What am I missing?
by (890 points)
@selfexistent2 not sure. I am in a spot before 8am, but after 7am. I take the 7:54 train.

I park at Rt 59 at 8am! And there’s still spots. You’re fine!

@dude the train that goes from Rt 59 stops at downtown Naperville stop, right? How long is the total ride to Chicago?
by (8.3k points)
@kayceekaye yes! Most of the trains at that time are express trains. My commute is just about 1 hour from the moment I leave my house in south Naperville (I live off 83rd and rt 59). The train ride itself tends to be about 35 minutes. It’s a very quick ride
by (660 points)
@dude i thought the ride from Naperville to Chi is about 35 min. I guessed the total ride from Rt 59 to Chi would be about 50min then? Or am I wrong?
by (8.3k points)
@kayceekaye it’s only about 5 minutes from 59 to the Naperville station. Def less than 50 minutes. The train I take leaves at 8:26 and I’m in by 9:05!

@dude great, thank you!

We live in south Naperville and my husband takes the train. You will not find a spot after 7am. Route 59 has plenty of spots and the drive is 5-10 minutes longer.

6:30 drop off is best. That will get you a spot
