Sorry for the strange question but does anyone have an elderly parents who have had luck finding a solution for showering while sitting? My parents have a shower stall and I need a way to get my mom safely in the shower and stay seated. I know you can't return these products and so I'm looking for recommendations. I've already asked Oswalds. Thank you!

Might I suggest that you ask the doctor for a home health occupational therapy evaluation. I do them all the time. We come in we do an evaluation with your mom to try to figure out the best options to get her in and out, give you safety advice and trial the transfers. That way nobody ends up buying equipment that isn’t right and nobody ends up with a broken hip. It is typically covered by Medicare. Nobody can really tell you what kind of equipment will work until they see your shower and how your mom moves.

@weathersby217 agreed. I'm an OT too!

@selena  this! The OT can see how their home is set up and recommend something specifically that will work for your mom ♥️

They have shower chairs- I’m sure you can find one on amazon. I believe we got ours at Walgreens

Definitely a shower chair. It made all the difference for my dad. You can find extended ones where half stays outside the shower stall and they slide across into the shower. You can often find gently used shower chairs in the Facebook marketplace. There also may be a lending closet near you. Check with DuPage County Senior Services. They are a great resource to those of us with elderly parents!

We ended up getting a teak shower bench. So far we have it 4th year and it looks like new. This requires some work but we also changed out the shower basin to pebble stone floor to avoid slippery conditions.

The ones I have seen and used are slide shower chairs and swivel shower chairs. Let’s them get safely sitting before entering shower or bath area.

Shower benches are great, if you can’t find one on Amazon, try Martin Avenue Pharmacy, they typically can help.

I had knee surgery back in January and couldn’t bear weight on my leg for a few weeks, so I bought a shower chair off of Amazon to use in our shower stall and it worked really well. I have no use for it anymore if you want it (free), although I understand if you don’t want a used one.

Check the ADA for guidance. They ha e specific instructions for installing grab bars, etc. we did this for my parents. I can’t remember the brand of seat but look for any endorsements from regulatory agencies. Also try calling 101 mobility in Naperville.
