Hi ladies, I hope you all are staying safe! Does anyone know what today's school announcement has to do, if anything, with daycares? I'm guessing they will re-open when shelter in place is lifted, but I wasn't sure if today's decision overrides that or not. Thanks!

My best guess would be they would open under phase 1 of the reopen plan. They closed right before shelter in place took effect whereas K-12 schools were closed prior to shelter in place.

I am guessing the stay home order will be extended. It wouldn’t make sense to close schools and then make everyone go back to work and send kids to daycare.

If it’s not safe for the older kids, not safe for the younger kids.

The federal guidelines specifically include daycares as entities that should stay closed during phase I of opening. Which will be difficult for people who are re-entering the workforce without childcare. I think the final call will still be state by state though.

@forster66 There will still be many people home who might be willing to help. A close friend or neighbor might actually be safer than a daycare.
