We need to remodel our bathrooms (full gutting) & our current front-runners are Reliable Home Improvement & Sebring. Has anyone here done a major remodel with either of these companies? If so, what did you think of them?

We used Sebring for a major remodel. They were great. We used them for 3 separate remodel projects.

We had Sebring build our addition and remodel parts of our house 5 years ago. Highly recommend.

We are just starting our 3rd major remodel with Reliable. They did our kitchen, with expansion into the dining room space, 2nd was a screen room addition, now our bathroom.

I lived in S Naperville for 20+ years and own Cabinet Brothers. We design and supply cabinetry only. However over the decades we supply the design and recommend one contractor that has demonstrated comoetency with the level of work. This keeps things seperate and objective and some of these folks have completed numerous remodels.

@bubal10 Which contractor is that?

We used Sebring for our basement and Reliable for our Master Bath. I highly recommend Sebring. Highly!
by (10.7k points)
@roca93 Why did you prefer Sebring to Reliable?
by (440 points)
@protolanguage9 Sebring was straight forward, no hidden fees or up charges, easy to work with. Reliable was not.

Reliable has great presentation and does great work for what I’ve seen but when we got a quote for a new front porch they were about $15k higher than the next bidder. We ended up going with Shiffler. They’re a bit more than some others (but way less than Reliable) but their reputation is stellar. They’ve been in Naperville 100+ years and even 5 years on if I have a question or issue, they’re out within a day to check it out

JW Renovations has done all three of our bathrooms. Fully gutted on two of them. They are more affordable than those companies, b/c you provide the materials, such as we picked out & ordered the vanity, the toilet, the tile, fixtures, etc. in otherwords you do the shopping, they do the work. If you're comfortable with that, i highly recommend. By doing it this way your costs are a lot lower. They don't cut corners, are clean and neat and very easy to talk to about your ideas. If something won't work well, they'll tell you. They are local, too. They are not designers, but will work out a design that you think of, if it is do-able.

Those are both great. If you have not checked out Redstart Construction, Inc., I highly recommend doing so. Chad is the owner. Just look at their work. It speaks for itself. He grew up in Naperville and offices in downtown Naperville. They are also doing a virtual design process right now if preferred.

Reliable did my daughter's master bath. Beautiful job, expensive and took 7 months.
by (1.8k points)
@allineallis86803 expensive and 7 months. WOW
by (10.7k points)
@allineallis86803 Was that 7 months of construction or 7 months after detailed plans & backlogged start date?
by (760 points)
7 months of construction. It was quite involved, but they had quoted 2 months. The job is really beautifully done . Read the yelp reviews, the worst one is my daughters. As much as she loves the finished product she feels that she had to put up with too much.

Thanks for comments so far, but this decision is tough enough without adding additional contractors. We need one with a full design service; we’re remodeling all THREE bathrooms (one a powder room). The online reviews for both Sebring & Reliable are few & on the extremes. I tried to search FB for previous references to these companies, but as usual, FB failed in providing results. Reliable is pressing us to sign now, saying that, contrary to expectations, desire for renovations has skyrocketed (from people getting sick of their homes during StayHome) & subcontractor prices will go up.

We used Reliable to build an addition onto the house. Highly recommend them! And best of all, all of the service workers (prep guys, construction, electrical, etc) were professional, considerate, and left the house very clean at the end of each work day. Their timing to completion was off by only one week! Had a very positive experience. Plus they were able to meet with us in the evenings, after our work day, which we found out wasn’t the case with other companies. good luck!

We have a construction company and we are one of the sub contractors for Reliable for over 15 years now. At the end of the job reliable asks customers to fill out a 3 page questionnaire about Reliables services, how they felt their superintendent for their job handled everything and how the customer felt that each sub contractor did on their job as far as cleanliness, being on time, getting work done in the time promised etc. Reliable then sends us a copy of this so we, as sub contractors know how we did on the job based on this questionnaire from homeowner. I can honestly say not just for our company but their electrician, tile guy, painter, HVAC and others I can’t think of, very rarely in all the time we’ve worked for them have I seen anyone get bad marks (they score 1-5 with 5 being excellent and then the homeowner can write comments) I think this says a lot for the subs Reliable is using. Maybe you could Ask whoever you are dealing with at Reliable if you could read previous customers comments. If any builder/remodeler is pressuring you to sign because the price could increase etc- DONT FALL FOR IT! They want your business and I would even recommend if you really want one over the other (and please don’t base it off who’s cheaper, cheaper isn’t always better kwim? ) but the one you like is more expensive, let that builder know you have a quote For the same Work for $X amount less and I’m positive they will work with you on price. There are way too many remodelers that you could hire just in our area alone and they all know you’d easily go somewhere else. Good luck!
