Oh boy. Our landscaper just recently put down like a dozen hydrangeas. I do not have a green thumb. Should I be concerned?
by (2k points)
@palua yes. I would suggest covering with an old bed sheet
by (3.7k points)
@so5 will it be an issue for tonight?
by (2k points)
@palua that’s a good question. I’m not sure. It doesn’t look like it will get below freezing tonight. But it’s the frost that’s an issue.

@so5 thank you for the guidance! Hopefully it'll be ok tonight!
by (2k points)
@palua they should be. You may have to cover a few nights in the near future. Good luck.

I put garbage bags over my new (potted) Boston Ferns. I know nothing about plants and kill nearly everything. Will the garbage bags be enough?

I’ve got root vegetables in the ground. They’ve had the frost blanket over them every night this week as soon as the soon goes down to keep the heat in. Tomorrow night I might do some hot water bottles and use my seed heaters because it won’t be warm enough during the day to heat the soil If the soil gets too cold the water inside the new sprouts could freeze and kill the sprouts

@mayfly36 please share how you will place hot water bottles. Do you have any tips on protecting your vegetables from wild rabbits? You sound awesomely prepared
by (3.9k points)
@mayfly36 I’ve got some of those hand warmer packets, do you think those will work?
by (1.1k points)
@kilowatt Usually what I do is I leave enough space in between each type of crop that I can dig down about a foot (I have raised beds) and burry a disposable plastic water bottle filled with boiling water. Every 3-4 hours I replace the water. As far as bunnies go I use snow fencing. It’s flexible and easily moved so you can access your garden. You can find it at any home improvement store.

@joshia they may work for a little while. The problem I find with those is they get too hot, so don’t put them directly on top of any sprouts you have. 3-4 inches from the base of the sprout should work

@mayfly36 yeah, that’s what I was thinking, just to help the ground near the plants stay warm. Thank you!

I cover them with a light blanket or sheets. Or bring them in the garage if they're in pots.

All of my garden is perennials. I'm going to cover just a few areas that I know will suffer irreparable harm from freeze damage.

And this is exactly the reason you should not plant anything until after mother’s day
