EDIT: I'm not looking for ways to eliminate the candy or prevent it from getting into the house  I don't need it to disappear, just thinking about storage solutions. Thanks, all you candy-stealers!  Question for a total First World Problem: What do you all do with excess candy that your kids get for holidays? Between us and two sets of grandparents, our three kids are constantly swimming in CANDY. They each have their own "candy bucket" but Easter put us over the edge! When I grew up we had a candy drawer, but this would never fit in a drawer! (I also didn't have grandparents that showered me with candy, but I digress. )  The kids have candy after dinner, 2-3 small things, if they've "earned" it, and I don't really want them to have more than that, but I'm at a loss with how to corral it all. Thank you!

Give it to your teacher friends. They can use it as rewards for their students. When I lived in Ohio, the pediatric dentist would let the kids trade in so many pounds of candy for a small toy. Not sure if that is a thing here.

@conglomeration5308 long gone are the days where teachers could pass out candy in schools

@conglomeration5308 I am a teacher, but most schools aren't allowed to give out candy

@ingrain53697 Oh wow! I’m new to the area. . Moved in the middle of lockdown and finishing my school year online like everyone else. I’ve been teaching high school for 20 years and in 3 different states and never had that as a restriction. I definitely understand the problems it could cause, that’s just a new one on me.

@conglomeration5308 I taught for many years when candy was allowed. But due to student allergies it can be dangerous and creates a liability for the school and teacher. I get it even more now that I’m mom of a child with a big allergy ❤️

I work in a high school and bring most of the candy we get there with me. I have a jar in my office and people take from it when the come in. Maybe you can leave it in the office/copy room area for teachers.

We end up tossing ours or I try to bring some to work (obviously before all of this) to try and get rid of it.

I wonder if food pantries would take it.

If not a big food pantry, definitely a micro pantry. There are several in Plainfield, not sure about Naperville. Great suggestion!

Keep a majority for a week , then take most of it to work , leave a bit for the kids and it slowly dwindles This year my oldest had braces and the other has allergies so we only did chocolate bunnies

Look up some science experiments with candy on Pinterest. I throw some away, give it away, eat it myself.

Maybe donate it depending on how it’s packaged or see if it can be sent to the troops overseas probably again depending on what kind and packaging. I used to send it to work with my husband. My daughter painted him a glass candy jar when she was little so that’s how he keeps it full. Lol

We now ask our daughter what our grandson would like. We give only small amount of candy and bubbles or a gift card to McDonald’s!

I have no idea why people go to multiple trunk or treats as well as trick or treating - the amount of candy is crazy! :)

I used to just make is "disappear" slowing so they don't notice. It worked every time!

You can freeze the chocolate and save it for later in the year. We dump our’s in a big plastic storage container and periodically I take it to work/throw it out

We have a basket in the pantry; up high so the kids can easily access. Chips are my weakness not candy. We often forget we have it and end up tossing it

We have a candy box we store up high. The kids can access it but it’s tough and they need permission.

OMG, request instead of candy, money to teach the kids money concepts. To do with the existing candy, freeze it and when we open up again and have people over, bring out or use as needed as treats

Out of sight out of mind works for us. My kids get to pick 7-10 pieces of candy and the rest goes in the trash or to my husbands work. I put their pieces into a zip lock bag and put high up in my pantry. Many times they ask for their daily piece of candy for a day or two and then forget about it a couple of days after the holiday. After a month or so I toss their bag and the remaining candy.
