Engineered hardwood?  Or solid hardwood?Engineered hardwood? Or solid hardwood? If you could replace the floors in your home and wood is your choice, which product do you go with? And why? Thanks!

We have solid, I like that we can sand it down when needed

Hardwood. We did engineered and once there’s damage it’s really hard to fix it. On the upside, it’s inexpensive enough you can redo it all and change the look.

@lyontine yes, it seems if this gets damaged AT ALL its like impossible to fix it. Big consideration for me for sure!

Solid. Engineered chips at the edges. We ended up doing bamboo

Solid. Even scratched and dented it looks real and natural. Engineered hard to repair and can't sand.

It is possible to sand/refinish a quality engineered floor. You can also replace boards if damage occurs to a prefinished floor, whether it’s solid or engineered. If that’s something you’re worried about you might consider buying an extra box. You probably wouldn’t be able to tell if a floor is solid or engineered once it’s installed. they are both real wood.

Solid is great and would still be my number one choice, but there are actually engineered products out there with super-thick wood layers on them. They can be refinished one or more times, and don't have all of the same drawbacks people normally associate with the cheaper engineered products. We wound up choosing this thicker, higher quality engineered for our last project because it was in a location where we really needed to watch the installed height.
