Are dentists/orthodontists open now?  I’m a bit frustrated.Are dentists/orthodontists open now? I’m a bit frustrated. My son has a face mask that is treating his underbite. He has had it for almost a year now, and his bracket to hold his rubber band broke a few days ago. He cannot wear his mask. His ortho has deemed that is not an emergency. I’m just concerned about the thousands of dollars I have spent for treatment and how his progress may regress in the mean time.

If his gear broke, I would consider that an orthodontic emergency. Try calling again and explaining it to someone else at their office or leave message for doctor directly. It’s going to be hard to explain and have another ortho pick it up when they don’t know they history and treatment plan.

@mclaughlin3846 I went back and forth with the receptionist who talked to the ortho. they just don’t feel it’s an emergency since he is not in pain.

My daughters ortho is open. She sees Dr Liedtke (2 locations Yorkville and Naperville). Idk if they are taking new patients as this time. Most dentists are closed unless emergency situation.

One of my kids was scheduled to be seen the week everything closed. He's been basically wearing the same invisalign trays since then because he needs different attachments to move on to the next trays. Not an "emergency " which I do understand so can't be seen until mid June. Assuming this will set his treatment timeline back a couple months but trust that his orthodontist is doing the best they can.

My son has his first one since February today - last 2 that were rescheduled were cancelled due to shelter in place, but they’re now seeing patients again. They are taking temps, only allowing patients in with masks, not allowing anyone in waiting room, staggering appointments. I feel very comfortable with all of the safety measures they’ve implemented.

My daughter wears a face mask at night and had an appointment in the beginning of April that they cancelled and she should of been able to stop wearing it at this point but. she continues to wear it bc we weren’t advised not to. Completely in the dark right now in regards to her orthodontic care. My daughter ran out of rubber bands and they mailed them to me but I honestly don’t know if her continuing to wear it is going to put her in a situation where she’s had too much movement. No idea. All I know is I don’t want to pay more money to undo something bc we have no direction. Seeing as many other peoples ortho is reopening I’m hoping it’ll be the same for us and we can get back in!

@behm60226 time for someone new!

@filings unfortunately it doesn’t work like that with them. We were given a total price at the beginning of treatment and pay monthly. Not sure we could get out of that.

My son has a face mask for an underbite as well. He broke off one of the top hooks the first week of the shutdown.  My ortho has him loop together two rubber bands and then hook around the part of his expander that sticks out on his molar. Have you tried that? It’s not perfect but he reassured me it is fine. One more thing to stress about, right?

@osteal I will have to try that

@individually she is my ortho and they aren’t open. Not even for emergencies. They are putting in place measures for when they open but it won’t be now.

Frey Orthodontics is open as of yesterday repairing broken brackets first then we are scheduling appointments in the order they were cancelled. If you are a patient at Frey Orthodontics please call the office to schedule. All with new protocols and safety measures in place.

Offices are beginning to open. They will need to change processes and have proper PPE to protect staff and patients.

Patience. They may not have adequate PPE/masks/air purifiers to reopen yet. A lot of dentists are having trouble getting the gear and also getting staff to come back, since their kids are home, etc. it’s been very haphazard, they only got the green light Friday afternoon that they could reopen Monday. I’d call the office and ask to speak with your son’s ortho, voice your concerns, and go from there.

@surveying certainly I can understand that. The reasoning you are describing, however, I’m sure is not consistent with why they have not yet reopened. They have all the funds they need to move forward.
