If he’s had the problem for 3 mos, it shouldn’t be an ER trip unless he legit cannot breathe.

Call his primary doctor first and see what they advise. ER is safe for emergencies, but I wouldn't go there to diagnose a problem that isn't urgent.

Yes, people aren’t going to the er in fear and dying at home from heart attacks strokes etc. it’s an emergency call his dr then go to er if they suggest

Call primary or/and schedule a video visit.

Most insurance companies offer web drs. See if yours does and what they recommend. May need an xray?

@maniemanifest he lost his job doesn’t have insurance and doctors are not taking new patients

@ramin then I would go to a walk in clinic that has a xray machine. It may be more cost effective in the long run. Hope he is ok.

@maniemanifest urgent care did his chest xray they said it’s bronchitis but now its like whatever he eats he vomits everything, sometimes he have difficulty breathing. We don’t know what to do

@ramin IMHO if he is having any difficulty breathing I would go to the ER.

Go to the ER.

@ramin was he put on a antibiotic? It may be too strong for him. My husband had that issue. I'd call the urgent care. Worse case scenes go to the er. You can see about breathing treatments from the stores as well to help him.

If this is going on for 3 months it’s definitely not an emergency call a primary and take it from there . Emergency room is for real emergencies

I would try immediate care first.

@punner we went to urgent care for 3 times antibiotics didn’t help

@ramin looks like you need to make an appointment with an ENT then.

My friend went to the ER earlier this week. She said all potential covid patients go through a tent area away from the ER. She said the ER was very quiet.

I read your responses to everyone. If he is unable to eat without throwing up, he should go to the ER. sometimes, something can linger with minor symptoms and develop further after being seen at the doctor. If it’s been going on for 3 months and has suddenly gotten worse, there’s concern. If he doesn’t have insurance or a regular doctor that he can reach out to, and you’ve already been seen in the urgent care, I’d go to the ER.

What are his symptoms? If he has a primary dr., Schedule a telehealth appt. If not, have him go to an urgent care. 3 months is a long time to struggle through discomfort. He needs medical attention and it is best to get the ball rolling

I had problems swallowing for a long time. Ended up being acid reflux. Meds helped. I’d have a video call with doc.

This would be for your PCP or urgent care. ER is for emergency that needs to go from awful to bad and then transfer you somewhere else.
by (1.9k points)
@stagecraft agreed. If it’s been ongoing for 3 months, he probably needs to see a PCP or specialist.

Call his PCP first and they will tell him if he needs the ER or not.

I went to Edwards Thursday. I wore my mask the whole time. Nurses have masks and gloves.

If you don’t have insurance I’d start with the cheapest route. an office visit and explain to Dr. an ER visit would cost ALOT. which is ok if you have no option? And somebody mentioned acid reflux. an over the counter med might help to start? Sorry. and be careful vomiting/coughing can be a dangerous combo with possible aspiration. But as far as ER goes. very safe. Lots of measures in place to protect patients and staff.

If you want to go to a Dupage Medical Group immediate care, you need to call and make an appt. (We had to go last Monday).

ED is dead everywhere. Everyone would be encouraged to get the help they need.

Innovative Express Care might be able to help, they're in the city but are doing telehealth and they would be a lot cheaper and quicker than an ER visit. I went to them a lot when I didn't have insurance.

If you feel like it’s an emergency you should go to the ER regardless. Most hospitals aren’t even putting covid patients in the ER, they send them directly to a separate area of the hospital. I had to go with my daughter at the end of March for an injury and there was barely anyone there and they screen everyone at the door.

Just wondering if he was tested for covid. And did he have sore throats that we're on and off? Any wheezing? (Obviously there's been coughing with the bronchitis? ) and do symptoms worsen with anxiety or stress?

People are getting sicker and dying because they have a false fear of going to the ER.

ER is for emergencies.

I haven’t read all the comments- I was able to get a pretty invasive procedure done at my ENT’s office. Most of them can do a scope- even more. I hate when I see medical questions here- because really, these should be addressed by a doctor, not in a platform like this.

@mcnelly no this is like having a freind referral No one is diagnosing any one just making suggestions for good care we've experienced Isn't that what neighbors are for?
by (5.5k points)
@mcnelly and it's a Sunday no doctors open for procedures so advice doesn't hurt

The immediate care is the more appropriate than the ER. There’s still many coronvirus patient entering the Er. You could catch at the hospital
