Under the current Illinois Covid-19 mandates, in Naperville, can I legally have four couples sit in my front driveway seated in pairs at four different tables provided I socially distance? Does everybody have to wear masks? Thinking a Friday social gathering that would normally take place at a local restaurant just taking it to the driveway. Please, just asking respectful questions. just looking for respectful thoughts. Thanks

Do whatever you want- its a free country. Dupage County Sheriff has made it clear that no enforcement will be taken.

Yes you can, as long as you social distance. I did last weekend and it was fine. Take precautions for your home for bathroom use.

Yes, sounds like you will be taking the necessary precautions. Keep several feet of distance, have people bring their own cups and such so they limit touching things that others may have touched.

We’ve had a couple get togethers over the past few weeks. Outside, bonfire, socially distant, BYOB and cups. It’s been great to see friends again. Just do it!

I base everything on risk level. I wouldn't have someone over that I know was exposed to a lot of people for their job or just in general (or if any of their immediate family members were. )

I met up with friends in a parking lot brought chairs and own food. We socialed distance by our cars. We had no problem. If you do it at your home. A neighbor may call the police on you. You have to be able to trust your neighbors.
by (1.6k points)
@inaugural the police will not do anything. You’ll just know who your jerk neighbors are.

We have done it numerous times. Naperville police have better things to do than worry about your social distancing party.

We do it without tables. Everyone brings their own beverage/snacks/chairs. We keep a social distance of at least 8 ft. If someone has to go to the bathroom, they leave and go at their own house. It's really good for the soul, but you MUST keep your distance!

It's unfortunate it has come to this in the USA. This is still our country and although we should act responsibly we should not have to be worried about getting together with other people in groups like this. I think most of the police feel the same as most of us do and a lot of these measures are unconstitutional. We are adults and should be able to act in a responsible matter without the fear of being harrased.

@scornful I took the question as his concern for health. I find it worrisome that so many are responding not with helpful thoughts on ways to keep their community healthy, but with lots of chest-thumping. Is being an American now defined as ONLY concerned for personal freedoms? I would have hoped that we all would want to do whatever we could to slow the spread of the virus. But instead I’m seeing more in our community apparently angry at the thought of being asked to wear a mask and social distance. I find nothing to be proud of in regards to our personal freedoms if we choose as a society to put others health at risk simply based on a hunch that this virus isn’t serious.

Yes, as long as you are the correct distance apart like you said you are doing. You only need to wear face mask outside if you cannot be 6 feet apart from people. Great idea. My husband and I are going to our friend's house on the patio this week for a social distance visit.

"Legally", no (according to the reopen plan). It's considered a non-essential gathering in phase 2, but personally, think it sounds like a fun plan! In phase 3, any gatherings of 10 or less will be "permitted".
by (900 points)
@adipocere96357 Yes, according to the mandate, it is not permitted in Phase 2.

Call a lawyer not the Facebook police and my advice is to stay at home ! You can meet up after a vaccine and make sure no one dies because you needed something to do. This coming from someone who may have it and all I have done is get groceries for my family. Stay at home stay alive

If you are just asking for advise from a health standpoint all I can say is watch which way the wind is blowing. If you are over 6 feet from someone that is talking and the wind is blowing toward you then particles can travel further. We need social interaction and you plan is a good one. Have fun, be safe.

Yes you can do outdoor activities around more than 10 people providing you can maintain social distancing guidelines. You do not have to wear masks outside unless social distancing cannot be maintained.

@okra9003 Chirico what did you think would have been the maximum around your house? Or , at least, the average home?
by (2.2k points)
@okra9003 Chirico thank you for redevelopment of Odgon mall, can city look into a round about placed intersection of Columbia and Iroquois. There is Arrowhead Park and this can get busy in summer and winter with the hill and sleds. Round about could slow drivers coming and going to Costco and other stores. There is also special needs apartments on Iroquois just behind mall they have a lot of power wheelchair traffic too.
by (1.3k points)
@overall We have a few round-abouts in Naperville, but they have not been widely used. Let me check and circle back.
by (2.2k points)
I think I saw somewhere that there are more accidents with roundabouts, but they are less lethal. More accidents would cause more traffic delays.
by (1.3k points)
@hartshorn19 I don't believe the order speaks to any maximum outside. It simply states if you are outside you must maintain social distancing guidelines and if you cannot, you need to wear a mask.
by (1.5k points)

Here's something to consider, a tail gate party in an empty parking lot! And everyone MUST wear masks, and bring their own food. And play music so everyone can dance close to their cars. Maintain the minimum 6 ft distance at all times. Keep the distance and the masks on. Ask the local p. d. before you decide and not FB friends. Good luck!

My elderly neighbors have their family and friends over every Friday in their driveway. They distance their chairs and enjoy pizza and laughs with their loved ones. It's super cute and safe and I personally think it's great.

Technically, it’s not legal. This is paragraph 3, of the Order: Prohibited activities. All public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit are prohibited, except for the limited purposes permitted by this Executive Order.

Yes you are allowed to do it. It’s your choice, they can not come to your house (private property). With the nice weather approaching and there will be way more BBQ ‘s and don’t forget graduation parties too. I’m going to a graduation party next weekend and it’s a police officers house, his comment was : they can control the graduation ceremonies but damn if they think they can take the party’s away. I think a lot of people are tired of being a prisoner, so they are out and about . It’s pretty much our choice. If you don’t want to go out, then stay home. Governor said- If you can’t obey the 6 ft distance then they have to wear a mask, if you can obey it then no mask needed. Have fun and enjoy!

I have good news to share: “The experts have indicated we can build on our plan to bring back more activities faster, as long as Illinoisans continue to do as we have, adhering to precautions & safety measures to keep each other safe. The epidemiologists now believe that summer offers us an opportunity. After working with restaurant industry representatives, I'm pleased to announce that restaurants can open for outdoor seating when Phase 3 begins, likely for everyone just 9 days from now. With the right restrictions – tables six feet apart and away from sidewalks, masks and distancing measures for staff, and other precautions – the experts believe these services can open at a risk comparable to other outdoor activities and give businesses a much-needed boost. Phase 3 also permits all gatherings – not just essential ones – of 10 people or fewer. That means if you want to go enjoy a picnic in the park or a walk with 9 other people, you can – just remember to wear a mask or a face covering when social distance can’t be maintained. Newly allowed in Phase 3: Boating or camping with up to ten people is welcome. Indoor & outdoor tennis facilities with IDPH safety precautions & capacity limits. Golf courses can allow foursomes out on the same tee times. All state parks can reopen with staffing and safety measures. As we've already laid out: Personal care services, one-on-one personal training in indoor facilities and outdoor fitness classes of up to ten people can take place with safety precautions. All retail stores – basically any store that wasn’t already open as an essential business – can choose to open their doors to in-person shopping with IDPH safety precautions and capacity limits in place. In the coming days, we’ll be releasing formal industry-specific guidance developed in consultation with business owners and employees, particularly around workplaces and child care. I want to offer just a note of concern that I hope everyone will take to heart: The virus has not gone away. We have followed the science and we’re succeeding, but we can’t let up now. We’ve come too far and made so much progress because we’ve kept social distance, worn face coverings in public, washed our hands frequently, and taken care of our most vulnerable to the best of our ability. We must persevere. ” J. B. Pritzker

Illinois bars, restaurants, and more will be able to re-open in just a few days. In the original Restore Illinois plan, businesses were slated to resume in-person operations in its fourth phase. Re-Opening However, Pritzker announced that because the spread of COVID-19 has been reduced, bars and restaurants can re-open for outdoor seating when phase three begins on May 29.

We did this. No more than 10. Chairs in a circle OUTSIDE. Non-cohabitating couples 6 feet apart. Bring your own chairs, own food and beverage and everyone kept masks on. We limited to an hour. We plan to do again Memorial Day if no rain. I see sone folks said no masks needed. You should be fine at six feet but to be sure, wear the mask when not eating or drinking.
