Has anyone flown to Europe in the past few weeks (Paris, London, Munich)? Were people wearing masks in the international terminal at ORD? On the plane as a precaution? Trying to see if we need to think about getting masks for summer travel. My concern is once flight restrictions are lifted to China in May, things might worsen in terms of Coronavirus spreading. Thoughts on mass transit, Eurail or TGV Lyra?

I heard on the news that the ‘normal’ masks don’t really provide that much protection. You may need to be a better quality face mask, if you decide to.

@kirsten Could you post a link of what you mean . others might benefit as well. Just trying to plan ahead as travel increases by late May. Florida ls looking really good right now!

@creep I don’t remember which news it was. Or even when exactly. It has been a couple weeks. And I don’t know how to include a link. Sorry.

An N95 mask

@creep I read that too. That the mask is not stopping the virus but it stops the person wearing the mask from spreading their germs but that the virus can get through. You could probably find it if you googled it.

@creep I think it something like mask N95. The regular masks don’t prevent you getting anything. I heard they are sold out a lot of places. Maybe try medical supply stores

We are going and will be wearing masks, just for general public health (keeps the flu away, etc).

@tremann I am certain they help more than no mask.

@tremann That's fine. If anything, if I catch something it also helps the general public health that I wouldn't be spreading it around.

I work at ORD (flight attendant) and I flew back from Paris on the 10th. People are always wearing masks even when coronavirus wasn’t an issue. I’d say get some masks to be safe, not from corona but because of flu and cold. I came back from Paris with a horrible cold.

For France and Italy travelers. have you rode Eurorail or TGV Lyra or other transit? Any observations so far on mass transit, commuter and high speed rail in France. As I said earlier, this is a very fluid situation and I realize it can change depending on how things go. (I am hopeful WHO is going to have this under control by early summer).

Asians almost always wear masks all the time, and look where it got them. I’ve recently been to SE Asia. 100% of them were wearing them on planes, in airports, all over traveling.
