Summer vacation question.  Have any of you changed your summer plans due to the pandemic?Summer vacation question. Have any of you changed your summer plans due to the pandemic? We have a vacation planned for Florida (the beach) the first week of June. The dilemma, we only have a few weeks left to cancel to get all our money back. Otherwise we lose it. I’d wait and see how things are closer, but cost wise we don’t have that option. Thoughts?

Better safe than sorry and cancel. Plus Florida took so long to get their shit together I’m betting it will be much worse down there and/or they won’t recover as fast.

Have not canceled yet for July. Still clinging to some hope we can go. Big road trip planned, it may seem a longshot but I need to hold on to some hope for something!

We have a cruise booked for the first part of December and we keep going back and forth on if we should cancel or not. If we did we would just reschedule for February/March. If I had a trip planned for June in Florida I would 100% cancel.

We had a rental house in Ft Meyers Beach, first 2 weeks of June and they canceled us. The Governor currently has a ban on rentals & also if you're from out of state, you have to quarantine for 14 days. That'd be my whole trip. They state they will be monitoring travelers to be sure they are. Lots of beaches are closed.

@columbine It's only if you're coming from New York, New Jersey or Connecticut. But I still wouldn't go.

We had a Dream Mediterranean cruise scheduled for the summer. That obviously had to get canceled in March. We are hoping me might still be able to go to Europe but as of right now, doesn’t look like we will be able to go.

Reschedule it is what I would say to get different target for hope. This will all end but may take longer then first week of June.

I would cancel and get the money back while you can. My fiancé had a work trip that we were going to couple into our fist family vacation to San Francisco the last week of June and for of July and his company cancelled all non urgent travel until August so we cancelled the rest of our trip as well.

Cancel, without a doubt. IF, by some miracle, it’s safe to travel then (highly doubtful), most People will still be very cautious and not go so if you want to brave it you could get some great deals I’m sure way better than whatever you paid

I would postpone - too close to make a trip with all this unfolding daily and shelter in place orders extending. Plus, “June 1” this isn’t magically disappearing . it will be a slow return to large groups, travel, etc once the shelter recommendations are lifted

IMO id cancel / postpone and plan for this to go through end of June or into July, at least.

We had a June trip. Cancelled it and AA refuses to refund our tickets -gave us a credit to use by Jan. That’ll never happen
by (1.6k points)
Is AA American Airlines? I just had a friend cancel flights and they told her she also had to take he credit but legally (in the US) they have to refund if you ask. The gov had to make statements recently because airlines have been refusing refund requests
by (3.4k points)
@speck336 really!? Thank you! And yes American Airlines
by (1.6k points)
File with the Department of Transportation or call back the airline and remind them what they are doing is illegal
by (1.6k points)
I would guess since the travel ban doesn't offically stretch to June yet, . maybe that's how they are skirting it. Maybe you'll have to filw claims after offical bans are extended to include the date of the flight
by (3.4k points)
@speck336 thank you so much for everything
by (2.9k points)
@speck336 if you cancel your own trip then the airline is canceling or delaying your flight. There’s a difference which is how they can get around it.
by (2.9k points)
@adalard2 Barenbrugge double check this. If your trip is in June, AA probably hasn’t cancelled your flight. If AA cancels, you get money back. If YOU cancel, you get credit.

I’m flying to Saint Louis end of June to go to Motley Crue with my sisters. The Crue hasn’t cancelled yet, so either have I.  We had to cancel spring break and other travel. I’m just hopeful our annual big trip over winter break will be a go. I’m desperate for a tropical, beach

We haven't cancelled yet but I'm 99. 9% positive we will. I'm waiting for Airbnb to extend their Covid cancellation forgiveness or whatever its called.

We booked our vacation for the first week of June. Non-refundable and insurance doesn’t cover in case of pandemics. I have a feeling we’re not gonna be able to go and won’t get any money back  I think we’ll just rent an RV and stay in the States

We have cancelled everything for rest of the year. I don’t think I will be willing to travel in early 2021 either. We just don’t know the lingering effect of this virus yet so decided to stop travel in general probably first time in over 25+ years. unprecedented times indeed

Our trip was to London and Paris for 7. We've already cancelled the Airbnb's. Was offered vouchers to use for anytime within a year for airlines. However, my fear is that the airline might not be around. Going to use the travel insurance and get the money due back to me.
