Are playgrounds closed in Naperville closed during Stay-Home? We live near a school & its playground (which is shared with the Park Distract) has no signage, so we often see kids playing on the equipment, usually a single family, watched by a parent. (And youths sometimes gather on the swings at night. ) Since nobody’s sanitizing the playground equipment, it’s a major vector for transferring germs from one child to another & hence one family to another.

Naperville should start calling people out like Aurora has lol

Yes, they are all closed.
by (10.7k points)
@squatter There should be “Do Not Cross” tape around ALL playgrounds, then.
by (440 points)
@protolanguage9 it’s extra money, extra time . Keep up with local news
by (6.1k points)
I agree that a sign should at least be posted but with how many parks we have in a Naperville, Im not sure that’s reasonable. Guessing it takes time and money and most people know they shouldn’t be there.

The way I understood it (and it may have changed) playgrounds were closed but parks were open as long as social distancing was followed. The kids should not be playing on the equipment. Maybe call the city to have them put up signs (I know other cities have signs on their playgrounds saying they're closed)
by (1.7k points)
@horehound I believe Nike Park has signs up now informing anyone of the closures. In fact, they closed off the driveway entrances so that nobody can park there.

That is from the state of Illinois website

S: Naper Notify - Help Stop the Spread by Practicing Social Distancing in Parks The City of Naperville and Naperville Park District remind residents to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by taking proper precautions when using area parks during the Governor's Stay-at-Home order. Please maintain a 6-foot distance from other people, do not play in groups or play team sports, and do not play on playground equipment. Although parks and trails remain open, facilities, playgrounds, athletic fields and courts, and park restrooms are closed. Reply with YES to confirm receipt.

No one should be using the equipment. The virus lives on those surfaces for awhile (this obviously varies w material). There’s no way I’d be taking my kid to use community equipment right now. It stinks, because not everyone has access to a yard or anything like that, and we all know kids need to blow off some steam, but I think at this point, it ought to be obvious that this is a good time to get creative and find safer alternatives.
by (2.2k points)
@sax30636 the study showing the virus living on surfaces was done in a very controlled environment. They also didn’t state whether the amount of virus remaining on those surfaces was enough to cause infection. Is the safe bet to avoid playgrounds? Yep. Are people going to catch COVID by playing on equipment with no one else around? I’d put my money on “highly unlikely. ” I understand that playgrounds were closed primarily to promote social distancing not necessarily because of transmission risks.
by (1.2k points)
@euell212 I understand that, and there’s a chance that being outside, it would be better. With that said, if you bring your kids to that playground 5 minutes after someone else has left, you’re still taking the risk. I assume it’s on everything, at least outside of my home, and I’ve been taking extra care w touch points within my home as well, just incase. We never know, but I can’t understand why you’d want to take the risk. P. S. I clean for a living, so disinfection is a big thing for me everyday, it may or may not impact my viewpoint.

@protolanguage9 okay.
by (5.2k points)
Definitely call the police, all park are closed and no equipment is to be used.
by (1k points)
@pricillaprick this is from the state of Illinois web site. I just really wish people would stop projecting what they think the rules are or should be. Everyone should be checking with their state and or local municipal websites to confirm FOR SURE what the rules in your area are. We can’t all just be spitting out “. all parks are closed, please don’t go outside etc. according to the state none of that is true -
by (7k points)
@saldana0 thanks! My husband talked me out of calling. Everyone needs to decide for themselves I guess
by (280 points)
I hate the idea of calling police but this behavior will prolong it for all of us. Sadly, I have learned that "do the right thing" means very little to some.

@pricillaprick your welcome. I also just saw this regarding all 26, 000 acres of Dupage County trials. This was posted TODAY, April 3rd.

This shouldn’t fall on the City, County, Government, Mayor or any other organization. 100% the parents fault and they need to do better.
by (10.7k points)
@mcelhaney685 Unfortunately, many reasonably-intelligent people have holes in their knowledge. I, for one, did NOT know that Illinois had closed all playgrounds. (I don’t have young kids or grandkids. ) My VERY bright & news-junkie brother thought it would be OK for him to continue shopping for his household, even after starting a 14-day quarantine because the family caregiver’s daughter had tested positive. So, governments need to step up with signage & not expect everyone to know ALL the new restrictions.
by (3.2k points)
@protolanguage9 I hope that everyone takes the time too read the “Stay at Home Order” that was put in place on March 21, 2020. The Order is very detailed, so there isn’t much room left for interpretation nor confusion. I hope that any available funds are spent wisely to help those that have been affected by this Virus within our community. The cost of resources that it would take to place signs on everything that we’ve been asked not to do, seems wasteful at times like these. “Stay at Home Order”: #3: Prohibited activities. All public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a single household or living unit are prohibited, except for the limited purposes permitted by this Executive Order. Pursuant to current guidance from the CDC, any gathering of more than ten people is prohibited unless exempted by this Executive Order. Nothing in this Executive Order prohibits the gathering of members of a household or residence. All places of public amusement, whether indoors or outdoors, including but not limited to, locations with amusement rides, carnivals, amusement parks, water parks, aquariums, zoos, museums, arcades, fairs, children’s play centers, playgrounds, funplexes, theme parks, bowling alleys, movie and other theaters, concert and music halls, and country clubs or social clubs shall be closed to the public. This Executive Order supersedes Section 2 of Executive Order 2020-07 (COVID-19 Executive Order No. 5), which prohibited gatherings of 50 people or more”

Stay at home order means stay at home. Parks are closed. Watch the news, use common sense. Go for walks, stay away from people, and make less trips to stores. Why do these questions keep being asked? Common sense ‍♀️
by (10.7k points)
@witticism Parks are NOT closed. PLAYGROUNDS are closed.
by (1.4k points)
@protolanguage9 park, playground, walking trail - choose whatever word you’d like - please use common sense - USE COMMON SENSE! You asked about playgrounds- they are CLOSED!
by (1.3k points)
@protolanguage9 parks are closed. Common sense. ILLINOIS (WREX) — All state parks across the state of Illinois, including Rock Cut State Park in Winnebago County, are closed until further notice.
by (1k points)
@witticism please make sure you have the correct information- this is why this question keeps being asked becauee everyone has an answer but no one seems to check with the State of Illinois web site- this is from Today .
by (1.4k points)
I have the correct information. You can go outside, you can go for walks - you need to social distance and avoid places that can accumulate germs like playgrounds and should not go to parks if there are people congregating. You should limit unnecessary trips. I understand, not sure why it’s so hard for others. Not sure why common sense isn’t so common ‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️ The quicker people get their shit together, the quicker we can get back to normal. This isn’t just a health crisis, it’s a economic nightmare. People are losing jobs, people are dying. Be part of the solution, not the problem.
by (10.7k points)
@boldfaced4 STATE parks. Not Naperville parks. Just Naperville PLAYGROUNDS.
by (1.6k points)
@protolanguage9 use your noggin Diane. Best to just not go.
by (1.3k points)
@protolanguage9 Does it matters STATE parks or Naperville parks? Its closed for a reason, people use your common sense! Just like school is closed for a reason, it's not closed so people can have their own little "school" gatherings. Geeze!
by (4k points)
Parks are open in Naperville trails are open in Naperville. Playgrounds are closed. There is no problem going outside if you're relatively responsible adult.
by (10.7k points)
@finished Wasn’t planning on it. Don’t have kids. Just wondering if I should yell at all the kids I see playing on the playground behind my house, and their parents (if any are present).

by (1.3k points)
Why people can not just use common sense? Schools are closed at stay at home has been ordered. yeapy, let's do playdates and have "school" while school is closed, we shall not care what's the current news or bother to understand why this virus is not just another flu. Is this the correct logic? So sad

Parents should be smarter! But where are the Naperville cops? There aren’t many speeders, or people making improper lane changes to ticket. They could be cruising the parks to help disburse and keep everyone safe !
by (1.3k points)
Yes, except they need to take cover to protect themselves too. They got family members and is already risking of infection by responding to emergencies. I will not expect them to do more. Let's all be extra cautious to battle with this spread
by (1.2k points)
@boldfaced4 Every 1 person a cop stops from using a public park could save 100 people from being infected. Cops know their job is dangerous, but that take that risk for the good of the public. So while I absolutely expect them to do more, it’s exactly because of that that I respect them and their line of work. A policeman not enforcing the stay at home order is a policeman not doing his/her job.

Why is the spring brook prairie still open? When the weather is nice I have noticed all the parking spots are full.
by (1.8k points)
@clergy can the virus hide in the tallgrass?
by (10.7k points)
@clergy Parks & forest preserves are still open — until people start using them for congregating instead of taking walks with their immediate households.

Baldwin announced her diagnosis on Instagram, in a post which read, “I am OKAY. It came on suddenly yesterday afternoon. Chills, aches, fever. I’ve been social distancing. Doing ALL the things we’re being told to do. Still — it got me. ”

She is an anchor at CNN. Covid 19 is believed to be airborne. I don’t have a problem with the parks being open, in fact it’s nice to see Naperville still up and running.

My kids love the slide. Is it ok to use if we wipe if down afterwards?
by (1.2k points)
@searchlight I would avoid it
by (1.3k points)
@searchlight Avoid it but wipe down first!
by (6.1k points)
No it’s not ok. The parks are closed - you need to follow the rules.
by (8.2k points)
Absolutely do not let your kids go on the playground equipment. Covid can last for many days on hard surfaces. It's not possible for you to clean all the surfaces on a playground to make it safe for your child. You've seen on the news that a 9month old and a 6 week old baby have died from Covid?
by (860 points)
Closed means closed. Keep them home please!

I feel horrible when I see someone I go the street just to keep the distance. I feel like its just wrong. People at the gas station don't do 6 feet apart. Drives me nuts!

@quadrangle115 aww yes I would take her out but personally dont know the kids or parents, and not willing to take any chances of her getting anything with the virus, some people dont even have symptoms. Wish everyone to be safe n well♡♡
by (4k points)
@cachinnate2269 why don't think it should be playing any contact Sports I could ride your big wheels together or ride their bikes together but you know Mom and Dad need to be smart about this

Does the Stay at Home order mean I can’t take my kids to the park? State parks will be closed during the Stay at Home order. Families will still be able to go outside and take a walk, run, or bike rid but should continue to practice social distancing by remaining 6 feet away from other people. Playgrounds are closed because they pose a high risk of increasing transmission.
by (10.7k points)
@smetana7015 You can go to parks (but not playgrounds) with household members. Hopefully, the DuPage Forest Preserves will stay open — they were threatening to close due to lack of social distancing.

@protolanguage9 I was just playing on the monkey bars myself. Jk. I think that is clear above. Playgrounds not open
