@atp1 my cousin, who lives in Minnesota, actually started their own coop a couple years ago. They have so many eggs now.

@riorsson we raised baby chicks over Easter. I’m a country girl and I’d love to have my own coop!

@atp1 you should get a goat to eat your lawn too

No. Not allowed in Niles. A neighbor had to remove them.

Roosters are definitely not allowed. Looks like chickens were allowed at some point a few years ago, but I was not able to find current information. Your best bet is to call the Village and ask directly.

No, sadly Niles really stinks when it comes to animals! Can only even have 3 dogs.

Is there a way to propose a change? What are the channels to go through? If my neighbor can have 2 large dogs, why can't I have a few chickens in my fenced yard? In Chicago they allow chickens - no roosters. That should be the same here, I mean it's right across the street.

@wichern346 Marinac or move right across the street and enjoy your chickens.

I know there's a house close to me that has chickens. She also let the chickens out in her yard. That brought a fox to our yards and the fox got 2 of her chickens.

@wichern346 Marinac why no roosters?

@anchorage too loud.

Rats love chicken food and tend to show up where ever chickens and roosters are being raised. Coyotes would be another problem too. You see it here in Chicago.

Didn't they just revise the ordinance on this a few years ago? I thought no livestock including chickens unless you're grandfathered (had them before the ordinance change).

Well you can petition to change it. I’d love to have fresh eggs. I believe MG allows them. Why not Niles ?
by (2.1k points)
Morton Grove doesn’t allow farm animals either.
by (1.9k points)
I thought they did since I’ve heard Roosters

What IF it was considered an emotional support animal that happens to give you stuff to eat for breakfast?
