@samba, many great memories there with my parents. That was our go to place! I loved the chopped steak with onion rings on top and the soups. Loved that they had matzo crackers in the bread basket. My in laws owned restaurants as well but people don’t realize, it’s truly a family affair. Someone from the family is ALWAYS there. The younger generations didn’t want to keep that up. They had their own careers. It’s very hard work.

@slenderize Hi sweetie, I am very happy you have lots of great memories from Arvey's. It was a great restaurant. I thank you for bringing this up, meaning HOW HARD IT IS. In life there there always a price to be paid with and for something. Yes, someone from family must ALWAYS be there. That someone was usually my father in law. Thst meant he missed out on lots of things mostly seeing his kids grow up. I met my husband Peter( Georges oldest son) there He too would have to be at restaurant many times. (80 hours) a week. So when we married he parted ways with the restaurant so that we could have a normal life. So that He could be PRESENT for us as a family and to see our 2 kids grow up. By the time we got married in 2002 Arvey's was a few years from closing. Everything has its time in life. It was a great restaurant run by a wonderful family. I am proud to see how many people all over Niles have fond memories of it. Thank you

Man there’s just Village Creamery, the small Arab grocery store and the library there now. I live a block and a half from here since 2016. Wish there was a nice restaurant that close to our house!

@regan I heard that the Family Pantry there has a restaurant in it. Plus you can see tables set up in there when you drive by and look in the windows. Not sure what kind of food they serve though.

I remember being so disappointed when Arvey’s closed. That corner is another area of Niles that needs a developer’s eye and monetary interest. I often thought that the corner lot plus the building behind it would make a great location for a gas station, with the building behind it renovated to house the Village Creamery and the Food Pantry from across the street. That would open up the southwest corner to house another restaurant in the area.
