Question

Moms, I should know this by now, but how do you get your little ones to/from the airport when traveling without their car seats? I've got a 2. 5yo and a 4mo. We've been lucky to take public transit or have family drive us in the past but don't have the luxury this time. Any help is appreciated-thank you!

They will only accommodate children who are at least 1 years old and are between 22 and 48 pounds and 31 and 52 inches with so this wouldn't work for the OP

Can you drive to the airport and leave your car there? Or maybe just fly with the car seats even if you don’t plan on using them once you get there? You never know they might come in handy and I think all the airlines check car seats and strollers for free.

You don't. Parking costs are now a part of your travel expenses. Car seats should be used for a kids plane seat, alternatively airlines check car seats for free, if you so not have a seat for the kid.

We use our car seats in the uber and check them for free on the plane.

When booking a taxi you can request a car seat.

I usually take the train, park in economy parking for short travels, or request an Uber with a car seat on it. Like @affinal said above, all this is part of your budget to travel now ‍♀️

Uber with car seats hasn’t made it to Chicago yet. However, Jenny Barbehan’s husband does this often. He has a nice van and will have whatever car seat type you need installed and ready at pick up.

Does your car seat need the base to be safely attached in the car? Our car seat doesn’t need the base to be safely put in a car and we used Lyft and then checked the car seat and stroller at the gate

Mi-fold Grab & Go was a gamechanger for us.

Mi-Fold is great, but wouldn't be good for a 2. 5 yo unless they're pretty big. There are some ride services that specifically will provide any type of seat transport when you book in advance. We used Ride In Bliss in the past to get to airports where transportation needs were sorted out on the other end and we just needed something in Chicagoland.

Please use car seat on plane so your child is not ejected in an emergency. C
