Best places nearby with an open field. somewhat remote to fly kites and let kids run free? Looking within 30 miles. Day trip would be ok.

Wormley Heritage Park (the open field next to Fox Chase Elementary) is good for kites! You can visit Harris Forest Preserve (Rte 71 in Yorkville), too.

@pretonic464 I live in the area (Fox Chase). I agree it’s a great kite field and usually empty.

There’s a field by my house. In Bristol Bay. By the soccer dome. We fly out kites there!

Just be careful, some open fields in the area are owned by Central Sod. I work there and those fields are treated with chemicals and are in processes you can’t see and should be stayed off of. Just a heads up.
