Hi folks, I have a question regarding investing with Vanguard. I have a net worth of 0! and after many years and beer tasting listening to #MoneyMatters I am now in a position to begin a pension and start contributing to some type of investment fund. The question I have however is can I go alone and DIY? or is it safer and just overall easier if I go through a broker. Another issue I have is I am based in Ireland. Perhaps a silly question, but are there any complications purchasing vanguard funds from Ireland? Are there tax issues etc that I need to consider? Thanks in advance for your help in pointing me in the right direction! (Very much interested in Social Responsible Investments)

You can message Vanguard directly on Facebook, and ask them about your ability to invest with them being based in Ireland.

If you invest in the US through broker or directly with Vanguard, you need to get tax attorney advise about US - Ireland tax treaties. Keep in mind that US has 23 trillion debt and rising so, its important you know what you are doing. You may consider gold funds or stocks or ETFs. You should diversify. Vanguard has good funds but, don't trust stock market 100%. Don't go all in.

Id also recommend contacting them directly. If i recall correctly they used to have a decent minimum you were required to have before using their services, but hopefully thats changed.
