I’m the assistant manager at kidsnips in naperville and this is all the stuff we have changed since told we can open . added plexiglass at the desk, an outdoor check in person, waiting in the car until the stylist is available so call when you arrive, masks are required for everyone over 2, we are treating it as a 10 person gathering so there will be no more than 3 stylists at one time with only one parent and one child in the salon at once per stylist, no blow dryers so we aren’t moving air around in the salon, we are only offering cutting services at the moment to kind of simplify things in the beginning since no one has worked under these new conditions yet, our stylists are only working in five hour shifts so our hours have changed and they are booking at half the pace as prior to COVID-19 to allow for ample cleaning between clients, we are asking to be as cashless as possible, no more walk in temporarily so we will be only appointment based

Omg! Children 2 and over have to wear masks? I mean. I get it. but how is that gonna be enforced on these little kids?

@gehman I agree! My son is 6. good luck trying to enforce masks on little children! It won’t happen!

@bromley19 just tell your kids they CAN’T have a mask. Wear theirs around the house. Play games with masks on in the house. Kids are so contrary when they’re younger. Take advantage of it! It’s deception for a good cause. I think everyone is going to work with kids the best they can. I am 99% certain children won’t be reprimanded, shamed, yelled at or punished for being non-compliant with masks because they are uncomfortable, stressed, confused, etc. These are difficult times, and I expect children will be given patience and kindness when they struggle with our new normal. If your child is treated in any way that makes you or then uncomfortable regarding a mask, I will offer to be your ally/advocate to help you get it resolved. Hell, I’ll extend that offer to any mom who messages me and asks. Please don’t worry about these small details for your kids. I’m certain there will be a learning curve, but everyone will just be doing their best. I know these words are easy for me to say since I’m a stay at home mom, plus my youngest is 13, and I don’t ever have to send my kids to childcare. But I do believe what I said to you wholeheartedly. And I will advocate for or with any mom who needs me.

I talked to my hair stylist and she let me know what was happening at the salon she specifically works at. Not sure if it's the same everywhere, but they put up plexiglass, we have to wait in our car til they call us to come in. When I take my kids I have to bring them in one at a time, so I'll need someone to come with me to be in the car. And masks.

@engdahl do you know if they’re limiting the amount of people in a salon at a time? including clients and workers?

She didn't say how many other stylists/clients would be in there. I would guess yes though because of the distancing stuff.

I work in a salon. As of now it’s only our safety precautions in place they haven’t told us anything yet:/

No guidelines for salons have officially been announced. Moving to Phase 3 has not even been officially announced. Just that it looks like we will move to phase 3 next week. There will obviously be social distancing requirements and masks. Salons can also add their own precautions.
