Does anyone know if a preschool like is only 1x a week? My daughter will be 3 in June and I’m not ready to send her more than just one day to get her acclimated

Early childhood educator here. 1 day can sometimes be worse than no days. I would think about doing at least 2.

@dane2983 can you explain why ?

@caricature routine and consistency is key! One day a week isn't enough to create a real habit, in my opinion.

@dane2983 agreed!

Totally agree. They need that routine. When my kids come off of a break, or are sick it takes some adjustment going back. 6 days in between is a long break.

I agree with this. Aiden has a hard time with even 2. it’s not enough to become routine. I can’t wait til he goes 3 days next year. Wait for preschool til September and find one of those “all by myself” classes to get her started. I know Lockport park district has one. Joliet might too. It’s once a week for like 45 minutes.

Depends on the preschool but most have a 2 day, 3 day or 5 day option. If you’re wanting to go through the school district though the lottery is going on now and closing soon I think if it hasn’t closed already.

Wilco which is the prep school of the county has a 2 day morning. Also look at the high schools’ early childhood learning program.

I currently have my 2 year old in the topsy turvey twos class at the Y it’s 45 minutes long and it’s a great start to getting them acclimated.

Also check out park district classes for little ones. They are one day a week for 1/2 hour. I used to do a couple with my little ones.

The library story time is a mini preschool session

@scumble4835 I did this too when my girls were little. They were in the room with the teacher and I was just hanging in the library. This was an addition to their other preschool activities and mostly for socializing.

@sima77 I do home daycare and felt this plus sports activities was enough to get them socially ready for a teacher that wasn’t me

@scumble4835 exactly! At 3 yo, my girls were at PCHS early childhood development program so only a couple days a week for maybe 1 1/2 hours. It is so important to get them used to doing things without mom around.

My son went to Parents Day out at St. John's Lutheran church when he was 2. It is for 2-3 year olds. I chose one day and it was great for him.

Definitely check into the Y. I've been putting my daughter in different programs there to get her comfortable. She's been doing Topsy Turvy 2s and I think it has helped her tremendously! It does take a couple weeks to get them used to it but consistency and routine is key! She's signed up for Pint Size Pupils in the fall for 3 days a week (if I can get her potty trained before then, hopefully lol). They have 2, 3 or 5 days I believe and it's for 2. 5 hrs.

Peaceful Hearts Christian Preschool has a 1 day per week program called Rockin' Twos for two and three year olds. I know they also work with you if you want to just do one day in the regular 3 year old program. Our experience with this preschool has been absolutely wonderful. It's definitely worth looking in to!
