Who let their kids stay home today because it's too cold? School didn't get called off. My freshman is mad at me because "everyone else is staying home. " Sorry dear, you are going. I put him in my heated car and drove him to the bus stop. I'm such a mean mom!

My senior tried to get me to let him stay home. Nope! The best part is he actually only goes until 9 am then comes home until 1pm because there is no Wilco today. He has to go back for his last class too!
by (2k points)
@guarneri I am BUT in my defense his attendance is important because we will be out of town next week for a funeral and he will miss.

Mine went! I drove my daughter and picked up kids I saw walking so please if you saw me I wasn’t kidnapping them just making sure they made it warm to school
by (2.3k points)
@clop8 that was sweet of you!
by (3.3k points)
@gossamer I know not all kids have a way other than walking to get to school and on cold days I know that walk can be very long! Haha some were very happy to jump in the car
by (1.9k points)
@clop8 I see young kids walking all the tome to my daughters elementary school and I always want to pick them up and drive them but I don’t want my van posted on the patch like “suspicious mini van attempting to lure kids into danger”
by (3.3k points)
@karleen ugh my husband tells me he can’t afford to bail me out if someone posts pictures of my vehicle and calls police  I just can’t help myself I feel so bad so I’m always asking my daughter “do you know them” roll your window and ask if they want a ride or rather walk.

by (3.2k points)
@file mine froze at the bus stop this morning because she refuses to dress warm‍♀️oh well lol
by (500 points)
@tautonym After school i pick up my 8th grader from the bus stop & when I see these kids come out of the bus, I am in total shock. This is me “Omg, she’s not even wearing a sweater or a hoodie, OMG she has Birkenstock’s without any socks on” and this is my daughter “So, it’s not that cold”. She’s like “I’m sooooo hot, I have a headache”  All while, I’m sitting in the car, with a sweater, jacket, socks and boots & I’m freezing ‍♀️
by (3.2k points)
@file absolutely same hereMy oldest is a teacher now and she’s like-Mom you should see how these kids dress(daily and for weather)I said ha that was you once and now it’s your sisBoys by me are still wearing shorts lol.

Mine went but I should have let my 8th grader stay home because she’s not going to DC and I feel terrible. ☹️
by (3.4k points)
Don't feel horrible - DC is a "flash in the pan" - they all forget about shortly after the trip is finished (with a few exceptions). I can assure you - with twins that are now Sophomores, they didn't go either - they opted to go on a big family vacay out of the country instead - and after the few days passed when their friends were "MIA" and they were at school; they never gave it another thought. She is definitely NOT the only child not heading to DC - chin up! ;)
by (1.8k points)
Thank you! I told her we’d take her and a couple friends up to great wolf lodge or something when our tax return comes in. was hoping that would be today but it’s not there yet so ‍♀️
by (1.8k points)
$1500 for 3 days of visiting cemeteries and memorials is just ridiculous. And only an hour at the Smithsonian. Such a waste of money (that we could not afford anyway)
by (630 points)
@cinelli93 mine didn’t go when she was in 8th grade either because we had a family trip to pay for that year. It was a pricey trip for the length of time they were going to be there
by (3.4k points)
@cinelli93 I hear ya -$1500 x 2 over here with the twins! I took the ENTIRE CREW (family of 6) to Mexico for 5 days for $1, 300 at a gorgeous all inclusive AND we actually got to make memories together (now THOSE they will remember! ) - they actually DO still talk about that trip! ;)

My daughter usually gets a ride from her friend's mom or dad. They went out of town, so she had to bundle up, walk to the bus stop, and wait for the bus. she said all the other kids were standing out at the bus stop as well. I saw plenty of kids walking to the school that I teach at also.

Life goes on when it's cold, if I have to go to work when it's cold, they can go to school! Besides, not like they have school outside, and my kids school is always hot, definitely warmer at their school than it is in our house! Plus today was a fun day, but mine r little

@guarneri You are a good mom for having your child go to school. If your child thinks you are mean, you are being a parent, not a friend, take it as a complement!
