For those of you that go boating. what is your favorite life jacket for a 20# one year old? She will obviously have it on quite a bit and I have no idea anything about them. (I need to research to! )

Anything that has a crotch hook I Kno it sounds weird but they are so light the preserver actually can drown them so u need toake sure the crotch strap is kinda tight on them also don get one too big it has to be snug on them or they can slip out my daughter did she knows how to swim but I was scared to death when I saw her floaty floating no kid and she was by the boat

@azar2134 ahh yes so scary! I will definitely get one with the crotch strap. I see some with the head pieces now and i never remember seeing them before. Idk if she needs that extra part that flaps up at the head.

@banquet that could be good we have the normal vest looking ones but they have he strap. But I also bring the one they swim in too my daughter is 7 and she's 4. 7 already so on a boat she just wear a adult small. My son wears this when he swims and I let him wear it on the boat too because he knows how to swim in it and if something happened I know he would be ok

I believe we used the one with the head piece until she grew out of it (30 pounds, I think). Then we used the one without the head piece, but still has the crotch strap. She will be in that until she grows out of them.

The most important thing for me is that it is Coast Guard approved. There will be a tag or stamp on it that says if it is. It also needs to have at least one strap between the legs. Other than that, you might need to try out a couple and see what’s going to work best for you. We always heard that the ones with a neck pillow are best, so that’s what we started with. With our son, that made him float face down, which is obviously the exact opposite of what you want to have happen. It fit him perfectly, but the balance of the “flotation” aspect was off, I guess. It held him in a doggy paddle position where he had to keep his head cranked way back in order for his face to be out of the water. If he had needed a rest, he would’ve been in trouble. We switched to a different one real fast.

@orientation5 very interesting! It definitely might be worth having one of each kind! Thank you!

Anything coast guard approved is good! The head pillow and strap between the legs is an absolute must. You have to think about why would happen if they fall into the water. The pillow makes them float on their back with their head supported. I like ones that zip.

We used puddle jumpers with our kids when they were younger.
