I’m wanting to donate my breastmilk!  Basically I’m pumping twice daily and my daugter doesn’t drink any of it and let’s just say my freezer is FULL! How do I go about doing this and finding someone local to donate to?

I can put you in touch with someone from Edwards Hospital. I’ve talked to her about donating my milk because it seems my little guy has a dairy intolerance so I can’t give him my stash.

I am normally the most OCD, organized person. So losing my mind being cooped up with my 15 week old is slowly getting to me haha. Love being a momma. Just not the momma brain LOL

@idou49 I have an almost 12 week old and I feel the same way! Especially being cooped up! It’s terrible!

And as my 5 year old just told me yesterday breast milk is "mommies special milk ". Apparently she remembers drinking it and feeling so strong lol

I’m a fan of donation, as I donated, but also keep in mind, you can use that to make cereal for the baby, incorporate it into muffins (when appropriate), use it as a “gravy” to noodles, etc. sounds gross, I know, but it is SO healthy and offers so many benefits to the baby and really anyone! *also good for rashes/eye infections/nasal congestion, etc

@kraal I do plan on keeping some for my daughter as well for all these good things! These are great ideas, thank you!

Secondary question. While I was pregnant, I had many health issues. Through many tests and hospital stays, I was found to have a virus that I was non- symptomatic for. Doctors advised me it would be in the best interest of my child to not breastfeed because I could pass the virus to him via my milk. It had the potential to have detrimental affects to my baby. (Blindness, deafness, and even death). Just for my own wonder, do these milk sharing co-ops do any tests before giving to babies in need?

@barclay I don’t think all of them do but I am still new to this so I am not sure! Maybe others can chime in.

I’ve donated through Human Milk 4 Human Babies - Illinois, through a connection with my doula, and through the Mothers' Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes.

That's incredible! As you've probably realized, you need to determine if you want to donate directly to someone, or via a service. I donated through Mothers' Milk Bank of the Western Great Lakes as referenced above. Happy to walk you through the process if interested
