I'm assuming the post didn't get approved until today, but she actually wrote it yesterday.

We're doing social distancing at my mom's place. We're all wearing our masks, and the chairs are 7 feet apart (extra 1 ft to be safe). We are not hugging. Gifts are being sanitized before passed out. We aren't staying long, just an hour or so. And we made sure no more than 10 people will be there.

Here's a simple question, and I'm not looking for a fight or sarcastic answer, but what if the mom's you want to see have been quarantining for 4 weeks at this point and you have been as well? Doesn't that prove that none of you have the virus?
by (5.3k points)
@marxism it doesn't prove you don't have the virus (only a blood test would) but I think you'd have a less chance of having the virus since everyone has been home. It's up to you and family if you want to get together or not. At some point we will all have to return to a new normal life. A vaccine is still a year+ away. At some point we will all be taking a chance at exposure again
by (1.3k points)
@marxism we had my parents visit us last week. We’ve all been sheltering in place and using face masks when going into stores so we COULD spend time with them. My dad is 90 and my mom is 78 so they’re higher risk.

Even while quarantining, you’re still getting mail, food, etc. even if disinfecting those items before bringing into the house, there’s still a chance, though slim, you can be infected.

@marxism there are asymptomatic carriers with the virus. Showing no symptoms but still carrying it.

I am kind of quarantining or social distancing or whatever people want to call it (because little terms don't matter, we all know what people mean). I saw my mother in law from 6ft on Friday and we wore masks (some are immunocompromised). I think we all need to do what is best for us and our loved ones. Sanity and mental happiness is health too! Do what you think is best! Happy Mother's day

My parents want to see us since day one. they feel they have lived a great life if its their time it is. We are a close family however. So needless we have been seeing each other
by (1.3k points)
@katar my parents say the same thing about living a great life. My dad is 90, mom is 78. we get mad at them when they say it though, but they firmly believe it anyway. Come to think of it, my MIL who lives with us thinks the same way.
by (3.5k points)
@stuckey my parents are both 72. I say mom you have at least 20 yrs still. ;))). She says I strongly believe if my time it is. so needless we visit and she visits grabdkids and now great grandkids. We never know when our last day will be or if we will get cancer etc. So my family has always just lived for the moment. needless thid pandemic has even made us just do even more to enjoy the life we have
by (1.3k points)
@katar that’s exactly how we are approaching this! They live a couple of hours away, or we would see them more often!

My parents/in-laws have had to see us since this all started. My husband works and my oldest goes to speech therapy still and I can't take our younger 2. So yes, we will see them today.

I think we’re going to do FaceTime as my parents live a few hours away. They visited us last week, maybe we should have picked this one instead!  We miss them.

Is there another option? Blech weather and everything is closed. I’ll stay here and listen to the heart songs of my children bickering.  Happy Mother’s Day!

@declaration we should have had yesterday’s weather today!

by (3.3k points)
@torpor14998 that’s what my grandma said, we stopped by to see her and she just ran to give us a hug she said being alone is what’s going to kill her
by (1.9k points)
@torpor14998 I fear for this too. Especially for my grandma

My parents are both essential as are my husband and I. We have gotten together but don’t hug. We are staying far from grandparents though

I see my parents weekly since I help take care of them and their home, and since my kids have been isolated this whole time, I’ve started bringing them with to help take care of my parents, their grandparents. We won’t be going over there today, though, but we will call and check in as our part to celebrate the day.

We have been seeing our in-laws the last two weeks. They have been sheltering in place since this all started like us and have been missing their grandkids like crazy so we felt comfortable enough seeing them. No kissing though. I’ve seen my mom a couple times as well but she goes into her empty work building every other week so we are extra careful and don’t touch. After lots of discussion between my husband and I, we in all honesty could get hit by a car tomorrow. We both agreed that seeing our parents is important ❤️

We’ve been seeing family, but from a distance. And we wear masks around them. I refuse to risk my kids safety or our families. If we don’t live together we don’t go near each other, I’d never forgive myself if I got anyone sick. So we maintained that today. Did drive by Mother’s Day shouts

Drove to my mom’s to see her from the porch and drop off her gifts. No contact though. Am not seeing my two adult boys as they don’t live with us anymore. With the weather being bad we figured being outside wouldn’t really work so another day. Thank God my daughter and step son (for part of the day) were here. Didn’t think it would hurt as bad as it is but it does. Plus I miss the rest of my family we’d usually see today. Can’t wait until this is over but we’ll make the best of it for now to be safe.
