You would need to consult an attorney for how to go about getting Power of Attorney now. You will need healthcare POA, as well, not just financial POA. Getting benefits in place will likely require both types of POA. Filing the forms is actually quite easy; however, you need the person’s signature to have everything officially in place. If they are incapacitated, they can’t sign, which is why you’d need to consult an attorney to see how to go about this. I had to be signed on as my dad’s healthcare POA a few years back, and my sister is financial POA.

Is your friend in the hospital? If so, a patient liaison would be helpful (on staff at hospital).

He is. I'm not sure they'll speak with me, but I'll give it a shot. I'm trying to help her out because the whole situation is overwhelming. Thank you!
