Anyone use smart plugs?  I have the ring alarm and would like to connect some inside lights to turn on and off automatically.Anyone use smart plugs? I have the ring alarm and would like to connect some inside lights to turn on and off automatically. More of a safety and security issue. From what I have been reading you will only be able to turn off and on lights. No scheduling.

You can have Alexa guard turn them on/off randomly while in away mode. I have a combo of smart plugs and switches in my home and they turn off and on while we are away.

Are you trying to just create a light schedule or are you wanting your lights (smart) to change colour and or flick on and off when you ring device detects motion or pressed? Just a light schedule should be easy without much cost, most smart plugs allow this. If you want the latter then you’ll need to set it up using IFTTT.

I have loads. I use lifx bulbs also. Neither need a bridge. My plugs are to link hs100 at the moment £14. 99 each in argos I use the ITTTF to turn my porch light on when it detects motion. My smartplugs are on my tv . Electric coal fire stove. fan etc etc I can set timers on off. Countdown timers etc etc on my plugs. For lights I don't need the plugs as Lifx as it's own wifi built in. So are speech controllable. Also I can set timers for on off in the lifx app. Also by using IFFFT I cam set my smart lights to turn on / off Or as I have set my r2db to turn on my porch lifx light the moment it detects motion. I've set it in iffft to fade out to off after a minute and to have the bulb at 30% so there is no light glare at night on my r2db I have one stick up cam pointing into my back garden that as soon as it detects motion it triggers with iffft to turn on my outside shed light to 100% then after a minute slowly fade to off.

It is correct that there is no scheduling of them through the Ring app. You can, however, schedule them if you have connected your Ring system to the Alexa app. I really wish Ring would support more features directly from their app. I have not had the best of luck with Alexa, and I'm still uncomfortable with letting Amazon run my home.

I have Kasa tp-link plugs, light bulbs, and switches and I can schedule any of them individually or in groups to go off and on through the KASA app.

Same here, but I schedule things through Alexa and when Ring is in Away mode, Alexa will turn lights on and off to make it appear you are home.

@maugre2662 I haven’t quite mastered scheduling through Alexa and going through the Kasa app is faster and easier for me. My son goes to bed much later than I do so I schedule all lights off at a certain time so I pretty much leave my schedules going all the time, especially my outside lights. But it’s great they work through Alexa because sometimes if it’s stormy or gets dark earlier than scheduled I can tell my auto echo to turn lights on before I get home.

I use alexa and identify my kasa smart plugs as "lights" for the plugs I have controlling lights. This allows me to use these in "lights" routines.
