I've been running two battery spotlight cams off of solar panels for well over a year now. They both experience numerous motion events throughout the day and my battery levels never fall below 97%. By mid morning the next day they are both back to 100% and recover nicely.

I have a hard wired spotlight cam and several stickup cams. I must say that my spotlight cam is the strongest and best piece of the puzzle. The stick up cams are not good at night and why I feel as I do. My stickup cams are solar and they’re nice in that I don’t have to change the battery.

Always go with Hardwired if possible. Always.

I have spotlight cam With solar panel, works great. The only thing that isn’t as good as a wired cam are the motion zones settings are not as customizable with the battery devices.

Has anyone had to make a custom mount for any of these solar cams where the sun doesn’t shine on their house? Like maybe on a short pole going over the roof?

@altamirano I have not but as long as the wire is long enough you should be okay. I get alerts often and with only 2-3 hours of direct sunlight my cameras usually float between 90-100% battery.

Love mine. Had it over a year and no issues. Just make sure you put solar panel where it gets sunlight. Btw I live in Illinois where we have lots or cloudy days in winter. Batteries have never ran down on between winter sunny days.

@britnibrito Dave, give me a list of what you did please. I need to put a panel on a side where there’s very little sunlight, especially during the winter to face up and over the roof to the side that does get sunlight

If you make a basic triangle to support your upright you can make the upright longer to put your solar panel above the edge of the roof. this would be the opposite of the way I have it mounted. It is difficult to give a list as all your dimensions will be different.

I just cut the pieces to the length I needed and bolted them together then painted black so that it was not too noticeable.

The longer the panel is in sunlight, the better.
