Integration with Amazon products. I also like that for $100 a year I get monitoring plus storage for all of the camera videos. When comparing with other companies (e. g. ADT) it was significantly cheaper. Plus if I ever just want to self monitor I can. Fantastic customer service as well.

I researched them and Nest, and couldn’t find much of a difference between the two. I went with Ring because of the cost of the monthly service.

Tried the others and they were very, very poor, and actually more expensive, Ring is more reliable and very reasonably priced, i just wish they had a micro sd card slot to record to so we were not forced to subscribe, but overall very happy with ring

@panoptic6 Why is that? And what would you buy today?
by (920 points)
@datolite fee like ring lacks a lot. Mainly you get an alert when the person is already on your step and leaving by the time the app loads and opens. Defeats the whole purpose of having it. I have it at 25ft
by (450 points)
@panoptic6 have you got the rapid ring app?
by (920 points)
@rolo1728 yea. Same thing. And it isn’t my internet because I took the test when I had the issues and the ring person stopped emailing me once it said pass lol. I like it don’t get me wrong. Just feel like if you wanna see who it is, by the time they walk up and leave Yourll see the back of head.

For a total solution, nothing else compares to the price and features. $99 a year for whole home alarm professional monitoring, extended warranty on all devices, and an unlimited number of devices with cloud recording at that location is a steal. I have over 10 cameras, so I think I really get my monies worth.

Ring offers a variety of solutions to meet the average person’s needs for DIY security. They are clear about what features they have and those features work as advertised. They provide excellent customer service. The ongoing subscription fees are lowest in the market and include a lifetime warranty. I also appreciate the integration with Alexa because she then integrates with a number of other smart devices. Highly recommend you join the fold!

Started with doorbells. Liked em. Expanded to a few floodlight cams. Wanted to replace SimpliSafe Alarm and saw deal on the Ring Alarm system. Liked the integration Ring and Amazon devices offered.
by (480 points)
Why did you want to replace SimpliSafe?
by (5.6k points)
@anthropo64954 i decided to ditch it before simplisafe came out with their new system. SimpliSafe was very slow to rollout cameras - something they touted doing for a long time. When ring announced their alarm system I decided I’d try it out given I was happy with the other ring devices I had. I was glad to see integration of the Alarm and Cams in a single app, and the big seller - monthly charge for professional monitoring. Ring totally beat out simplisafe. I was already on rings plus plan because I had more the 3 devices and the $100 /yr cost that included the Alarm Professional monitoring included at no extra cost, well beat out what I had to pay SimpliSafe per month just for their professional monitoring. It sealed the deal for me.

I like the doorbells better than the competition. I do have some Nest cameras. But now that Google has shut down works with Nest, I would not recommend them. Ring customer support has been the best. Some of the Gen 1 stuff failed and they didn't ask questions and replaced it. Oh yeah. I also added the Ring alarm and I like the integration with my z wave Schlage locks and the cameras. I have Hubitat HE and there is an unofficial software link that allows me to integrate it into my home automation.

I may live to regret what I said, I have the db pro of which is brill, I have the cam elite coming tomorrow so let's hope that's as good. Although, will be using ether net so shouldn't have issues.
by (1.8k points)
@infract - Elite you mean you ordered RING Elite? POE . that is such a nice product
by (2.4k points)
The camera, not db
by (13.8k points)
@infract You will both love it and hate it at the same time. I have 4 PoE connected cameras all on the exterior wall f the house and the farthest away from the router. Cat5e/6 does not care how far away or how may walls you pass the signal will be full strength. Suggestion throw away or toss the injectors back in the box and get a 8 Port PoE ++ switch (++ speed is 60 watts per port and for future unknown uses). Put the switch in a master bed room closet and run camera to there and then run a cable from the switch to where ever your modem is located. If you wish to run a Mesh system at some point run a Wired Ethernet backhaul instead of a 3rd 5Ghz backhaul. No signal loss due to distance or wall penetration to the AP. Do not get a Mesh system that does not allow a wired AP connection. Yes I do understand that not all homes allow for attic access for running cable but it is truly the best method to bet the strongest signal.

Ok so this comment may become long, so I’ll apologize in advance. I live in Florida, our home came equipped with an alarm system when we purchased it. It was a Safe Touch system, and they are recognized as one of the better alarm companies down here. Before agreeing to start my service with Safe Touch, I contacted a few other security providers (such as ADT) and finally decided upon having Safe Touch monitor the system. Admittedly I was fairly happy with them, except I couldn’t control the alarm via an app. We started reaching the end of the 36 month contract and during that time we were painting the interior of our house, when doing so I realized the sensors were looking “dingy”. I called them and explained that I’d like to swap out some sensors and I’d like to discuss routing the alarm signals through the internet (instead of the required home phone) and that I wanted to be able to access my system remotely. I was told that the sensors would cost however much (if memory serves they were running a 5 for $99 deal - with an extension of contract for another 36 months) but they would have to be professionally installed (note this was a wireless system), the installation rate was $125 an hour, furthermore for them to convert the system to VOIP and add the app connectivity it would be an additional $150 for that device and cellular backup, plus of course $125/hr for installation. My monitoring bill was $29. 99/mo plus taxes, but with cellular back up the bill would increase to $54. 99/mo plus tax. Needless to say I was rather frustrated and began exploring my options. I had Comcast/Xfinity for Internet, Phone, and Cable, I was paying $99. 99/mo for that and with the tv boxes, modem, taxes, etc it was around $158/mo total. I called them about adding home security and dropping phone, turns out they had a package for $99. 99/mo for cable, internet and home security with a price lock for 2 years. I took it and I was happy. During that two years I acquired a Ring Doorbell because my house is an odd design, you could not see the front door from any of the windows, nor could you see the front half of the driveway, Initially I had contacted Xfinity about adding a camera, but they wanted $199 for the camera and 9. 99/mo for cloud storage, which is what got me to turn to Ring. I got the doorbell, subscribed to the $30/year plan and was happy. Recently, my 24 month price lock ended with Comcast and my bill went from roughly $158/mo to $220/mo so I again started exploring my options. I was displeased with the look of the Ring alarm system, but found that the second generation was being released and found it to be much better looking. I upgraded to the $100/year plan, then pre-ordered the alarm system and some added components, with the Protect Plus plan, I even saved 10% on the equipment. So, obviously my long story made short, it was all about price that brought me to Ring over the competitors, but I have to say that I am loving the Ring 2nd Gen alarm system, I can add or remove sensors whenever I want, I can control the system with an app I already had on my phone, and I have maximum control. I will also say that I am surprised by the cellular back up, it is my understanding that Ring used AT&T for cellular back up, and everyone I know that has AT&T Wireless has no signal in my house, however, I placed the base station and it shows that I have 3 green bars of signal, so it must have a superior antenna/receiver. My only complaints are that when I ordered the system (I got the 14 piece set) it came with two motion sensors and there was no option to remove them or swap them out for different sensors, so now I have two motion sensors that I’ll never use sitting in the boxes collecting dust. I also dislike that glass break sensors are not available, and with large glass doors in my home I’d really prefer to have them, luckily I was able to integrate Alexa Guard to listen for the sound of glass breaking, so I opted to order some Echo Dots to add to the system. My complaint with that is when my dog shakes his head, his collar tags jingle and alerts me to glass break, which never happened with actual glass break sensors.

@panoptic6 Hartke Thanks for the detailed reply, I appreciate it.
by (530 points)
@kraemer I completely agree! Let’s face it, I am not trying to be cheap, but I am thrifty in the sense of “why the hell should I pay more than I have to”, it does not take a genius to respond to an alarm notification, that said, why should someone pay $50+ a month for monitoring when they can pay $100 a year! Safe Touch, ADT, and the other big names out there do not electrocute an intruder, they do the same thing Ring does. They call to verify the alarm and dispatch authorities as needed.
by (530 points)
@datolite no problem!
by (1.8k points)
@panoptic6 Hartke I totally agree with you 100% you spend most of your life to make that money and they just take it so save where you can. we are a budget friend family also and always research different things before pulling the trigger unless certain that is the best .

As a ring and prior NEST user, I settled on RING since the 100. 00 year subscription provided; the option of adding cameras without additional cloud storage costs, theft protection, extended product warranty, home professional monitoring, product discount. I've also had incredible customer service and tech support - I felt it was superior to what I personally experienced with NEST. The RING product works very well, the quality is comparable to NEST although I like the look of the NEST products and their quality feel and performance is excellent. It boils down to value - I'd be driving a Mercedes vs a Subaru if price/value was not a consideration. Its all about value! I am also in the echo/alexa eco system, which works well and is constantly being improved. RING appears committed to rolling out upgrades and improvements regularly. I feel supported!

I used Arlo cameras for a couple years and the quality kept going down, along with the cost of batteries. I’ve never had any real issues with my Ring system, which started with two doorbells, added two exterior cameras, and later added the full security system. I’ve been very happy overall. The service people have been great when I’ve had any issues.

My son bought us our Ring doorbell. Unless you have the ideal set up (view from doorbell to street) they can be tough to catch motion. We did not have the ideal set up, but we made it work ok for us by adding wedge. I really liked the fact that I could see who was at my door before opening it. Then we bought a Ring floodlight cam to replace an existing traditional floodlight over garage. The floodlights are great. Wired vs battery devices, wired is always better. Since then we have added more cameras (spotlight mount model) and the alarm system. I run them all from my phone, my husband doesn’t have a clue but he is my installer. We are retired seniors.

I’m a Ring user since their first branded Doorbell came out and really liked their customer support, better value plans, new software enhancements all the time and forever expanding their product line. Live view was a feature that came a year after I got my first Doorbell from them so they really have come a long way. Sticking with them for now though they need to upgrade their Doorbell Pro which hasn’t seen a proper HW upgrade in ages.

I had a ring wifi pro doorbell. Not the greatest. I then replaced it with the elite POE doorbell and it works perfect. Ended up getting 5 more poe stick up cams. Reasons, I was already invested and wanted to keep the same platform for cameras. Their monthly subscriptions are very reasonable, (much cheaper than Nest at the time), and it includes lifetime warranty. 1 plan for all my cameras. They met my criteria of being POE cams.

I honestly have no idea other than in error. I have two properties and two ring doorbells All I ever manage to see is the caller driving away. :-( Galaxy Note 10+ phone, all the latest updates etc and as an "away from home doorbell" it sucks. To be honest I just use it as remote camera and check in occasionally, I realy cannot rely on them. I bought one and my mum bought the other. All this rubbish about it must be the wifi etc is utter tosh. The software is as buggy as hell and crashes out. The dates displayed on timeline are wrong and in all fairness, if it was a horse it would have been shot. You asked the question, there is my honest answer.
by (700 points)
@few2367 P Raper Hmm. Sorry. I've heard this complaint before.
by (670 points)
There is more Dane. My home unit was replaced by the hardware store because it developed a battery fault during first month of use (a full charge lasted 3 days) . The other unit at my other house (where my mum lived) was also replaced by the store when its camera failed. That replacment unit was charged yesterday and I now see the camera is way out of focus and once I can get to the house (50 miles away) I may be having to replace it again. It is about 8 months old. I thought RAPID RING might solve some of the delay issues etc. All that happens now, and I assume this is where the RAPID tag comes from, is the app crashes faster.
by (1.6k points)
@few2367 P Raper not that it helps you. but my ring app has never crashed ios. agree on the response for the doorbell but i have an ancient phone so i figured it was that. i tried the rapid ring but just didn’t want another app
by (700 points)
@few2367 P Raper Yikes.
by (670 points)
Yes, my phone is one of the latest available. Wifi is not an issue as both units are on separate providers. My doorbell is 3 metres from the router and mum's is literally the other side of the door. The adverts have us believe that we will see the porch pirates casing the house, walking up the driveway and we caninstantly shout "bugger off" through this wonderful technology. The reality is you get a notification, you try to log in and get the message "reconnecting" or "video cannot be played" etc. When you do eventually get on and can check timeline you see someone walking away from your house and then 25seconds of tumbleweed.

by (450 points)
When I set them up, I was quizzed about sensitivity, sound, etc. I just chose the default, assuming I could change the settings later (as I can easily with Nest). But I can't quite get there. I like to edit on my computer and "view" on my phone. Nope!
