Should we be making fun of the concept of showing compassion to people less fortunate than ourselves?
by (3.6k points)
@responsory socialism has nothing to do with compassion.

@hotze It's when we have labels for basic human instincts that we learn to hate them. Instead, if we choose to strip the labels and examine the basic humanity, we will all be capable of understanding our common goals - our survival, our dignity and our freedom. Rather than forgetting that in something as huge as the Earth, only diversity can exist, we must choose to accept that our cultures, our dreams, our lives all change every 100 kms. Therefore everyone talks a different language because everyone lives in a different world formed by the diversity in their own experiences. It is absolutely essential that we peel back the barriers we have set against each other and find a common language to speak. And that language can only form if we work together to seek and find solutions for all of us together. That collaboration should come with a sincere intent to improve the lives of others. Not to protect the privileges that we have been fortunate to acquire, maybe through hardwork, but maybe also because of the opportunities we were fortunate to be given that others could not afford or were not available to them.

@maletta As I've mentioned earlier, it's when we use labels instead of looking at the intentions behind those labels, that humanity collectively experiences loss. Capitalism worked till it was hijacked by it's largest beneficiaries using their gains to influence government and obtain undeserved benefits. That's not the fault of capitalism. Similarly, every system can be manipulated to suit the needs of the privileged. The worst part is when those who have hijacked our systems of governance, manipulate us into fighting with each other while they get away with crimes.

Making sure people who don’t have rankings and have done nothing to get them, get them without asking anything in return, and making it really hard for people who are well educated and well versed and almost impossible to get rankings
by (1k points)
@disregardful An old couple looses their business due to young SEOs. They loose their savings and healthcare, unable to start over again. Asking for government systems to care for them cannot be the same as how you have described it, can it? Would it be ethical to portray compassion for the unfortunate as greed?

I'd like a system where everyone has an equal chance of success. I hate fucking Amazon stealing my spots just because they have more money and influence.

SEO's ultimate goal is to get new customers to patronize the business, whatever that looks like for that particular business. SEO 'could' be used for non-commercial content but that's not it's typical purpose. This is accomplished by getting people unfamiliar with the business to see their web pages and/or other appropriate online content as soon as possible after they type their money or research keywords in the search engines. SEO ranks the content as high as possible in the results pages using multiple on and off page SEO methods. SEO can be applied to text content, images, or videos. SEO must also be concerned with verifying that conversions take place from those web pages after people visit. There are several ways to monitor conversions: tools, using a forwarding phone number and/or email address that the SEO has control of, and/or having the business ask new customers upon contact how they found the business and documenting that information. As I have said multiple times in the past it doesn't help SEO at all to get people there if they don't feel comfortable contacting the business.

SEO helps you: 1 - show up in search at all 2 - look so enticing when you do show up that people click on your link & 3 - the people who click your link and visit your website buy from you.

To me SEO is everything from kw research and potential client behaviour through to generating relevant traffic, delivering them to a site that is optimised for people and search engines ensuring the path from landing to conversion is well lit clear and easy, then upsell and ongoing maximisation of the client. OK so I am a web marketer not an SEO I guess, my number plate says SEO but that is only a small part of what I do but a large part of why initially contact me.

SEO is a process(es) that you apply to keywords (concepts, brands, etc) so when people search for them, your content will pop up above others folk's content. That's it for me, at the end of the day.

SEO is sculpting a website to make it as easy as possible for search engines to realize that your page is the best answer to the search query, thus rewarding you with increased visibility.

In the simplest way possible. Finding what and how people search, and positioning a website to serve those needs to get free traffic.
by (130 points)
Col, Free traffic? Positioning isn't free, the outcome shouldn't be!
by (5.9k points)
@blackford8 not sure what you mean? If you do 100% of your own work, it is free traffic. Maybe negligible hosting and domain costs. But aside from that, there is no cpm or cpc in SEO. You can pay someone to go after that free traffic for you. Or you can be paid to go after that free traffic for someone else.

What is SEO? Assuming it’s a search engines job to find the best answer to a question. SEO is understanding how the search engine determines what the best answer is and using that knowledge to create best answers for ourselves or our clients. BTW, the best answers are not always search listings these days, so folks saying “rankings” are behind the curve.
The Search Engine Optimization Group is where you can always find questions, answers, advice, reviews & recommendations from other community members about better strategy on ranking highly for search engine results.
