We manage 4 massive sites and we are looking for a new place to host them. We are currently using Hosixy but their support and service have gone down the drain plus they got hacked a little while back. Any recommendations for a reliable provider for a dedicated server or VPS that doesn't cost an arm or a leg per month?

We lease a dedicated server from Sectorlink. Have been with them for well over 10 years through 3 servers.

It seems to be one of the best options from what people have suggested. Was looking for a managed solution and this looks to be it.

@curzon I like dealing with the company but should stress that we have NOT used their managed server service. On those rare occasions where I've had to ask for help the technical staff has proven to be very competent. And there has been little staff turnover, although I haven't had to file a ticket in over a year.

Michael, we usually don't file tickets for issues other than websites being down. Which is the current reason we are leaving our host. As long as the website is up and running, we shouldn't have to contact them for anything but just to configure our IPs for each website in the beginning and that's about it.

My suggestion would be to go with Google (cloud) or Amazon (AWS)

I use GCP, and probably wont change for a while. The backend management is really convenient. You can save money with a lot of independent providers, I always seem to run into drama and glitches.  You know who you should talk to is @jigaboo45030. Him and his partner manage hundreds of sites for clients, and he seems to have a really good handle on the hosting stuff. :P

Thanks for the shout out, I just think you should follow @contagium advice 2 comments down. Use Cloudways or Runcloud to fire up DO / Vultr etc. and you can scale with them as needed. If you only want to pay for the resources you use go with Closte. com which uses Google I think and only bills you for resource usage.
by (830 points)
Dude, I've never heard of Closte. They are using exactly what I use. LoL The Google Cloud Marketplace has a free Litespeed Deployment module, and I've been using that for months. So, I guess Closte is the same thing, except fully-managed. Very Cool! :)

RunCloud to manage your pick of VPS. We use Digital Ocean, but you can use Vultr, Linode, Google Cloud etc.

Agree with @contagium or if you only want to pay for the resources you use go with Closte. com which uses Google I think and only bills you for resource usage.

Google Cloud, Vultr, Digital Ocean are solid by any means. AWS Lightsail can be hit or miss, but EC2 is solid.

@corruptible OVH is a better option for production. SYS servers are depreciated OVH servers. The OVH network is better as well.
by (490 points)
@galah Yes I know, SYS are based on OVH datacenter but less cheaper I think. I have used SYS on over 4 projects, works super fine. And whenever you need their customer service, its OVH who always answer your emails

Liquidweb. Been using them for probably close to 10+ years now. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

So you have the 2gb or 3gb ram plan?

we offer solutions for businesses and we build out the servers custom then give you as much access as you feel may be necessary. Even a custom server control panel. We are partnered with DigitalOcean and we manage everything for you.

Eddy, talk to Crioshavyn. They have unmanaged, and fully managed options for VPS.

AWS. A Lightsail instance might work, if not you can configure an EC3/S3 instance if you need more hardware.

If you can manage it yourself, i would check out the Hetzner. de server auctions, very sweet deals in there. My dedi is running smooth for 2 years now, and just pay 32 euro a month, including plesk license. i7 - 32gb ram - 4tb space  Also a lot of other options there, but mostly unmanaged.

@caerphilly i love Hetzner Germany.

@spider works like a charm for me. But have to know how to setup a server, maintenance and security. Not that difficult if i say so myself. And can always hire someone on upwork etc to set it up

GridPane. Extremely fast, cheap, great support, on different services (Digital Ocean, Vultr, etc).
by (240 points)
Jake, was just looking at digitalocean for a VPS. Nothing crazy like to dig. Am I better off going through gridpane verse direct to them,
by (1.9k points)
@biles with GridPane you won't have to deal with system installations, configurations, optimizations, you have great support, great defaults. IMHO, for $30/month it's a no brainer unless you have a very very limited budget or don't have more than 1 site.

Stay away from liquidweb and go for hivolcity
by (260 points)
@jigaboo45030 Fuller give an example of support going downhill. I haven't had any issues.
by (3.9k points)
@jigaboo45030 Fuller Woah, I was just getting ready to sign up but I thought to come in the group and read reviews first.
by (450 points)
@chew446 hivolcity all the way. They have more to lose than liquidweb. You see pre sale to some big company web hosting companies that are smart like hivolcity have to have good customer service. And they are smart.
by (450 points)
@chew446 even had an issue with billing and they apologized and made the fix in less than 30 mins.
by (3.9k points)
@jigaboo45030 Fuller Thank you Jeremy! I am looking them up now.

I use WP Engine, and have been testing SiteGround. However, upon reflection, I am going to keep my money sites and premium clients on WP Engine. Migrating to SiteGround has proven a painful process- where I aged about 10 years over this weekend alone. SiteGround is unlimited websites with free email- so good for building new websites- but a no-no for migrating websites too. (Unless you are more technical than their support team).
