Curious on what you would do. A client of mine gets about 9, 000 organic hits a month from google. After doing a review I noticed that a few blog articles that were written before my time are retaining 2/3 of all the traffic. However those articles have a bounce rate of 95% or higher. Obviously people that are landing on these pages are not interested in the content. Would you redirect the page elsewhere, modify the content, or what would you do?

Don't modify too much. Just add some new content at the start focused on the services/products they are selling and then add a big button for conversion like "Buy Now" They will ignore the rest of content !

I have a similar issue. An article on the local service domain is getting lots of traffic. Since it's "educational/appeals more generally to people who aren't necessarily looking to buy the service", I'm wondering if it's doing more harm than good? Would it signal Google that the site is more relevant to the "general" topic this article ranks for and drags down the more buyer intent keyword rankings (people will bounce after reading this) or it doesn't matter? Maybe moving the content a step deeper & linking to it from that ranked page would be a better idea. or rather deleting this page alltogether? It brings significant (non converting) traffic to the site tho.

Are they actually not interested (low time on page) or are they satisfied (high time on page)? They are very different case points. If it makes sense, adding some kind of option to the posts to encourage people to move onwards into the site could be beneficial.

@resourceful752 this x100. High bounce rate doesn't mean anything without context. Knowing the details determines the course of action, not a high bounce rate.

@resourceful752 time on page* is under 10 seconds so not much value.

@eulaheulalee yeah that really is low then. Obvious stuff . install a scrollmap to see how far down the page people are even looking. And a screen recorder to see what people are doing. Hotjar would help.

Do the articles promote other content on the site in any way?

Alter your content so it matches the incoming queries.

High bounce rate doesn't automatically mean the content is bad. It might be perfect content. The reader could be getting the answer they need in very little time, or clicking an external link etc.

Maybe the content on the landing page is outstanding. It's the other content on the site they are not interested in
