I had a bad week with Home Advisor calling my reno clients and I'm pretty frustrated. I always take time to block all the known numbers and inform my clients at the outset of contract but recently it has been more sinister. They call from virtual local numbers and get the client all worked up because they don't announce they're from Advisor and simply leave voice messages saying they're John from the area and need to urgently talk about a kitchen reno estimate. It's harassment and disheartening especially for new clients excitedly looking for their first quotes. Do you sit down and talk to clients about spam after site launch? What's your worst Home Advisor encounter?

Yeah, good idea to prep them for the spam. "Some initial spam is a good sign, it means the algorithms have seen you and your out there on the web. Let's set up various levels of filters and funnels and get our system humming! "

Its the Yelp Listing - It starts the minute Yelp is updated. Also Yelp is also as bad as Home Advisor. They are dishonest to the core.

Let’s say someone hypothetically ran a directory. How could they make it better for lead buyers and agencies?

Pretty sure HomeAdvisor is accepting remnant leads from disconnecting business numbers.

I know a guy who ran a directory that did that. As soon as you stopped paying him the monthly fee, your own business name would stay up on the directory, but when someone contacted your business, the call/email would be redirected to a competitor who was still paying.

I don't think they have made laws yet to stop that particular type of fraud yet, so it's a "good" business model.
