Digital marketing companies website without an SSL is just fine as long as they know how to do digital marketing. Check out "MIAMI SEO BITCH" ranks #1 for the keyword "MIAMI SEO" search volume 2900/m and people visit the site without any issues. I think this can also be used as a marketing stunt in itself. So, SSL or no SSL, it doesn't really matter unless you are selling online in that case you definitely need one.

@apart65821 you have a point but a secure web is a better web. SSL's cost very little. I personally wouldn't trust a company who can't secure their own site.

@apart65821 your rank dropped to 2nd.

@tomtoma an SSL doesn’t “secure their own site”. It does nothing to protect the site at all.
by (3.8k points)
@boatload yes but it’s a lot better than someone see this. Regardless how you feel about an SSL a guest seeing the Not Secure doesn’t really have any benefit. That sends a negative message.
by (3.3k points)
@tomtoma Yup, I do agree that a SSL enabled site is much better to win trust of noobs given that the site GATHERS personal information. Plus, since SSL is dirt cheap and mostly free with some host providers it's a no brainer not to have one since digital marketing agencies mostly deal with noobs. BUT. If your site does not collect personal information and you do not have an SSL then getting one becomes optional and just in this case the webmaster does not have to really worry about it and noobs will still come and hire you just because they found you ranking higher than the rest.

It''s called security and ensuring your users and your own data is safe from 3rd party malicious attacks and stuff. If they have a site and ask people for their email addresses then they should have one regardless of industry or vertical.

It’s easy, free, and should be present on a site where trust and digital competency is being pitched. Adapt when you can control the terms, not once you get squashed by an incremental browser update.

“Without SSL encryption any computer could intercept the transmission from your browser to the server. ” - GoDaddy Seriously, malicious users can 1) Track your users; even see that they are on your site, if they’re on the same network. 2) Intercept both the information on your site; and change content or load malicious scripts onto it - on the front end.
by (14.2k points)
@mollescent they can still change your content or load malicious scripts to your site whether you are using SSL or not. SSL does not protect your site from being hacked.

SSL should be as standard these days. I’d be concerned iff they didn’t have one

My favorite are the digital marketing companies or web designers with a GoDaddy site.

@authorized isn't it like so good? My emails keep telling me it's so easy and convenient! Gonna go sign up for their webmail while I'm at it.

If you are the type of customer that is not deterred by no ssl, you absolutely need a full service solution for your online presence.

Yes get one ASAP - easy and included in most hosting platforms, i. e. WPX Hosting includes a free SSL cert

These days it's inexcusable. Also, you gotta go that extra step for security in general for your site beyond the SSL.

That makes me think that their marketing knowledge, like their tech, could be a little out of date. ‍♀️

You don't have a digital marketing company. Unless of course they were advised but ignored the advise.

We provide ssl certificates with all our hosting accounts. It is inconceivable that a digital marketing company wouldn't not only have an ssl, but their customers not have one either. The sad part is most people don't know they need them, and aren't educated on the importance of having one even if the don't sell anything.

To be fair "digital marketing" companies aren't always SEO vendors. They may be doing social or ppc and neither would require them to know SEO basics.

Have your url preceded by “not secure” is just not good optics. I will never trust a digital agency that doesn’t have ssl site

Sites with no forms, no cookies, no ads, no nothing, completely static, don't need a SSL certificate. Doing stuff just because others do it, would be more of a red flag for me.

Nope. Because I don’t even use my website. If you find me randomly I probably don’t want to work with you. I’m referral only so I really don’t give a shit what spammers trolling my page think.

Honestly, every site that can be easily associated with my real name is more or less a total shit-show to keep my playbook and contacts off the radar screen. There's no romance without finance, honey.
