My site has a /services/ page that has a quick summary of the services I provide that links out to the services. I've been thinking lately that this page is pointless because it really provides no benefit. The user can just hover over the menu and click the service they want to find out more about, whether it's SEO, lead gen, etc. Am I right in thinking that I should just nuke that page and then move /services/seo/ down to /seo/ , etc and set up the proper 301s?

I wouldn’t change the URLs

Would you still nuke the /services/ page though even if you didn't change the URLs? In all honesty, I have 0 links to any of those pages so I don't think it'd affect things much anyway even if I did change them?

@singularize If it’s a low value content page e. g. has very little content and mainly links I would say yeah!

I’ve had websites where the services page ranks quite well actually. I would reconsider before removing it especially if it has been online for some time and gets traffic.

It gets pretty much no traffic, which is why the thought popped up

@singularize well in that case I would still consider other options (such as optimising it) before I decide to remove it. I have this idea of trying to repurpose pages first before going and and removing. However every case is different and there may be cases where removing the page may be the best solution.

It's a table of contents (of the stuff below it) type page. I like to have those. It's a perfect landing page if Google isn't sure which service a user is interested in, but knows they're interested in at least one - or if the search indicates several services you offer. What other page on the site serves that purpose? That said. it SHOULD be more than just links. It should be an overview of all the services. Talk about the common elements they all share, the years of dedicated and quality service the company has done to develop expertise at these services, and so on.

I made that service URL our home page. So if you go to home. com/services it’s home. com but if you go to the actually service it’s still home. com/services/seo for eg I did this for structure so it looked like the typical site services/ about /contact etc I would not change the URL to many 301s delays for my taste. Not worth the risk to your seo either.

I’ve seen many /services/ pages rank really well. Just update yours to be a more robust version sharing more info about each service.
