Best gift for my wife would be to remove it all. Ha

@fiche6 “the hardest thing is making it easy” I own an AirBnB and I strive to make my smart home either invisible or completely intuitive.

@unclothe1851 oh, mine is easy, but it's the concept
by (17.1k points)
@fiche6 what does she have against the concept?
by (1.7k points)
@unclothe1851 something else is controlling our house. It all started because noone would turn the lights off. Slippery slope from there

@fiche6 my girlfriend started as a “naysayer” but now she can’t live without it. Doors auto unlocking, lights coming on automatically, etc.

I guess it has to be for the right person. My wife couldn’t care less.

@mauricio7 . perhaps you are not doing it right
by (400 points)
Haha. I’ll admit we are on the lower budget end of home automation, but it would definitely come across as a gift for myself in this household.

A full day of no hardware lockup’s, Alexa malfunctions with colored rings that nobody can remember the code, no random lights coming on at odd times. That would make my wife’s Valentine’s Day complete.

How about setting up an Alexa routine telling the wife to get her panties off.

It’s called foreplay @durgy!

Turn a bunch of power off on the 13th and then tell the wife Happy Valentine's when you turn it back on(finding the problem)

I just asked my wife the question. Then I answered Roomba. She said "Yeah Baby". Lol

Simplest thing in the world, and practical. Add an Alexa Show in the kitchen, connected to AnyList. She can say “Alexa, add Flour to my shopping list”, then we can use AnyList on all of our iPhones to check things off in the grocery store. AnyList even organizes the shopping list by Aisle (after you set it up). My wife uses it every day. Once in a while, I will be in the grocery store shopping, and I will find something pretty funny on the shopping list like XXL condoms. She has fun with it.

For what it’s worth, I have a Hubitat system with 130 devices. She couldn’t care less about any of that. The motion sensors, the automatic control of lights and Scenes, she couldn’t care less.

Smart switches so she doesn’t leave the iron on. Replace a light switch for that closet light or pantry light she always leaves on. Smart washer and dryers so she can do laundry more efficiently. Smart roomba so she cleans the floors better. these are all things you shouldn’t tell her she needs if you want to live
