Yes I would agree - use a power monitoring outlet instead of you want better results.

me too but then I have it trip a virtual switch that has Alexa announce the dryer needs to be emptied. She repeats the dryer STILL needs to be emptied every 15 minutes until someone empties it. It’s totally annoying but it gets my teens to empty it!

Was thinking of using the air coming out of the dryer to inflate a blow up doll, and when the dryer stops, it will deflate, and click on a momentary tactile wire switch, then I was lost on how to tell Alexa its done.

If you have a Google or echo device. I set a routine so that when I start the washer or dryer, I say: Alexa, laundry. About an hour later Alexa reminds me, "Your laundry should be done about now".

That has at least four problems: first you shall not forget to set the reminder, second at least in our case both dryer and washing machine have different runtimes. That can be anything from 15 minutes to 2 hours - and you don't know how long before he dryer didn't start and is a few minutes in. Third the machine often is "on" over night, and will only start the program the next day. And last but not least: it all depends on a working internet connection.

Yes I have a SmartThings sensor attached to the side of my dryer. I created a WebCoRE piston that announces the dryer is finished on a couple of Alexa devices.

Aqara Vibration Sensor might be a cheap alternative to the others, but maybe more work to set up and requires a compatible gateway.

I assume this is for older dryers? When mine reaches the end of its drying cycle it then goes into a mode that does a single rotation every couple of minutes to prevent creasing
