I use rachio 1 still and love it. I'm sure v3 is much better.

@canton, It seemed like more of the same to me. I believe there is some new kit that only works with 3rd gen, but nothing that is "wow".

I did but had problems. I replaced it with Orbit's b-hyve control panel which, at the time, was less than half the price.

I'm using the Rachio 3. It was pretty easy to setup (changed out an old Rainbird controller). The automation is nice, I was able to go through and define where the heads were as well as the type of heads and it automatically adjusts watering each zone. So far no major issues with it and it gives me regular notifications if it cancels a schedule due to rain/wind/etc.

I have a Rachio 2, and the biggest compliment I can give it is that. I never touch it. Just works.

Yep. Costco had the 12 zone version for the price of the 8 zone.

I have used Rachio and Rain Bird. The Rachio is heads above the Rainbird. I have no experience with the Orbitz.

Hydrawise from Hunter. Rachio is a fair product, just has a long ways to go in comparison to other professional products. Rainbird is WAY behind. BeeHyve is trendy. Decent software. I think where homeowners miss the boat on products like this is finding something a professional is going to want to work on. Remember that smart controllers are only as good as the system installed.

@apprehensible yes. You would want a pro to set it up for you. Not that you can’t, but you’ll have a pro that will have access to your controller right from his tablet or phone. While smart controllers are awesome and save water, no one knows how to water better than a pro.

@apprehensible with hydrawise, your contractor will not only have access to your controller but can see watering reports, milliamp loads to the solenoids (can find solenoids going bad before they go bad) and all of kinds of pertinent information that homeowners and standard smart controllers overlook.

Rachio 2 and I have two wired together. They have more than paid for themselves in water savings with ROI within the first year of use

I actually just have a bunch of relays mounted on a piece of plywood. They turn on and off with cheapo smart outlets I had laying around. I should really upgrade.
