I bought the outlet and a switch, hoping both could be integrated with Hubitat. Nope. You either use their switch OR control the outlet with a Zigbee hub. Not both. Manual control is top priority for me, so that outlet isn't on my hub. Outside of that, it works great with the paired switch! STILL waiting to try out the blinds.

Tradfri bulbs and remote switches have been pretty solid for me.

Loads of it, install it for my clients too but always on the smart things hub as the IKEA hub is too limited in things it can do.

Thanks for the comments! A friend just wants to control and dim 10 or so bulbs and saw the IKEA stuff. I am n my way to IKEA on Wednesday (it’s a long drive) so wanted to are a look and see what they had.

@slumgullion love the little GU10 bulbs in particular. Using them to grow a fern garden. Otherwise the other bulbs are great too (probably have about 40, one failure in about a year of use)

@overmantel, I particularly hate the gu10 for the light they give is not very white even at 4000k, with a cast of yellow. Drives me nuts. 4000k is the fluorescent range and it should look fluorescent. The dimmer remote is a bit finicky to setup. But once you are done, it works well. I prefer it over Philips Hue even.

@baguette really? I’ve never found them objectionable. They seem about as “white” as most 5000k bulbs I’ve used. That goes for both the hue adjustable ones and the ones that only dim. I run mine through home assistant via deconz, so local control (which is nice and snappy)

@overmantel, I work in film production so I am very sensitive to white balance. Not saying the light quality is bad, but I have a blue wall (2 different blue painted walls to be exact). And the color cast on it doesn’t return full blue but with a tint of red so it looks . a bit magenta. It’s hard to judge over your photo because your smart phone also has auto white balance.

@baguette oh no worries, I didn’t think you were. Interesting though, and the blue walls would really emphasize the difference. Hope you find something that works for your use case though.

@overmantel, actually, some of the comments here give me hope. I have been racking my brain out trying to figure out what to buy. Gu10 that is 5000k are all over Amazon. But none of them have a remote (which I need for my usecases). Then someone just told me they can link IKEA remote to any light on Google Assist. I am going to try it out.

@baguette yup, I think you can. Or run something like home assistant
by (130 points)
@overmantel, what’s Home Assistance? Different than google?
by (1.4k points)
@baguette best way to think of it as an open source hub that isn’t locked into any one ecosystem. It’s also run locally in your house, so the response time from motion detectors and lights etc is noticeably quicker (also more secure as a result). The problem with Google Home or Alexa as hubs is that if the device you want to use isn’t supported, you’re out of luck. Home Assistant can pretty much play with everyone (including Home and Alexa) because it’s not “under” any one company.

Anyone used the shades?
by (1.4k points)
@tit just bought them. Love the blinds themselves, still figuring out the Home Assistant integration (don’t want to buy the terrible IKEA hub so I’m making it slightly harder than it need be)

What’s up with the blinds? Is it just an availability shortage or have they had problems/delays with the tech?
by (1.4k points)
@woodhead tech seems good, I like ours

The hub and software is shit. But the bulbs are super bright! Use them with another hub and you’d be sweet

Don’t get the wireless dimmer, it doesn’t work properly. Loses connectivity, stops linking and falls right off when you turn it. The on / off dimmer and the remote control are fine
by (130 points)
Jamal, remote control is the round thing right? It works well. I don’t have the dimmer then.
by (1.2k points)
@baguette yeah that’s the remote control. That’s pretty good. The wireless dimmer (also round but doesn’t have the other buttons) is horrible. I tried many times and it always lost connectivity and disappeared. Had to enrol again and worked for a few minutes and then back to . Changed battery too, so gave up on it
by (130 points)
Jamal, who would have thought . same company, extremely similar product, different quality. I am glad I didn’t have to deal with that.

I have 5 of the blinds. Mixed results. I have a homekit scene for example and often 1 or 2 won’t go up or down with homekit or the ikea app. Have to use the physical remote. But in fairness haven’t tried to re-pair them yet. Overall they work well.

The IKEA stuff is rubbish. It's badly designed and there is no in-store expertise.
by (130 points)
So true about the lack of in store expert. They know less than I do about their own inventory.

I bought the Tradfri Socket and Wireless switch bundle. Both of which can be discovered by Smartthings and be configured as individual devices - not too bad, useful little items
by (130 points)
Can you pair with a third party remote?
by (560 points)
@baguette I use Google home to control the Tradfi socket, and use the Tradfi switch to control my Sengled bulbs. all via ST. Does that help?
by (130 points)
@kurtzman Durham, wow, so what are my choices in term of remote controls beside Philips Hue and IKEA Tradfi? It’s impossible to find anything on google in regard to such info.

@baguette Smartthings is my hub. I'm just experimenting with linking things to that. What is the project you are trying to solve?
