Hi all, recently purchased an LG TV that can be controlled by Alexa, Google Assistant, and HomeKit. I have Alexa, HomeKit, and SmartThings at home already. I'd like to find a way to set a sleep timer on the TV (if it's on) when I am ready to go to bed. I've found ways to turn it on and off as part of a routine, but not set a sleep timer (which would be preferable to any kind of "wait" step). Any suggestions? Appreciate the help.

I use HomeKit. I just created an automation to turn my bedroom tv off at 11:30.

Thanks Steve. That might work well enough, though my preference would be for a way to invoke a scene/routine (such as my Good Night routine which turns off all lights and sets my SmartThings to Night mode), and have the TV turn off a specified amount of time from that moment. An actual sleep timer would be even more ideal in case I find myself not being able to get to sleep and want to extend the time manually. I'm surprised there is no way to do this at least with Alexa.

You can. In Alexa, create a routine, call it 'tv sleep'. First 'wait 1 hour'. Next 'turn off tv'. Not sure about if you can't fall asleep and say it again, will it cancel the first one or not. You'll have to try it.

Create a routine in Alexa where it starts with a "Wait" of however long you want and then turns the TV off after that wait. Have the routine start when you say something like "Alexa, bedtime".

I may have to settle for that. It's less preferable because 1) I could only invoke it using Alexa, and 2) if I decide I want to keep watching TV I can't just "extend" the sleep timer.

@plectrum79270 both good points.

@kirov I appreciate the suggestion. I'm just surprised that the automation capabilities of the TV are so limited. I have a feeling that if I could more directly access the available commands within the LG Alexa skill, I could do this more easily. I'm not aware of a specific voice command in the skill that allows a sleep timer, but I know I can at least switch channels, adjust volume, etc. (not all of this is available when designing routines, of course).

Your tv might have this feature built in already

Why not combine a sleep timer with a motion sensor? Set a routine that says if sleep timer is set to on AND no motion is sensed in your bedroom for x minutes, the TV gets switched off. If motion is sensed, it automatically adds y minutes to the timer.
