My motion alert notifications only happen if I am in away mode. I use my phone's presence to set home mode or away mode.

You can also use webcore to send notifications then use virtual switches as restrictions. I do this for lighting. If the virtual switch "send notifications" is, then when sensor X is active send push notification. Then you just turn that switch off and the notifications stop. Modes are another good way that's probably a little easier but webcore is super powerful and flexible. There's lots of options for something like this.
