Does anyone have a good primer on locally based smart hub/management options? I don’t know anything about it. I don’t really like that everything I have runs through cloud management and just seems like an unnecessary intermediary for everything I plan to run (except my ecobees perhaps). I don’t use wink but there’s no way I’m paying anyone subscription fees for a service that just makes all my automation dependent on them for no good reason other than ignorance of how to go around them. Thanks in advance.

Are you technically minded? You can run your own system on a Raspberry Pi computer using free software - Home Assistant (quite complex to start with) or Domoticz

Or node-red (my personal fave IOT hub software)

I don't have a primer, but I have been using HomeSeer for about 10 years or so. Interface a little clunky and old school, but you can run the software on any system you want. I personally am running on a one board mini computer with Windows 10. The system is very flexible, works with most anything. Lots of add on programs to allow interface to many products, and if you are programming savvy, you can write your own interfaces. Most flexible system I've seen.
